Hacking weird Nintendo DS adapter?

I found this adapter for the Nintendo DS (original) in a box of stuff I bought at an auction. I have no clue what it is or what it does, but I am curious. I was hoping maybe somebody here has either had one or knows what it is.

The clear case it came in says Mad Catz, so I'm thinking its one of their products. I was unable to find anything similar on their website, so it's definitely an old, obsolete item.

It's for the guitar grip attachment for the game Guitar Hero (insert subtitle). I'll post a picture when I get the chance.

The grip attachment fits into the GBA slot of the DS/DSL. Since the DS fits the entire GBA cart whereas the DS Lite only fits part of the GBA cart, there is need to separate adapters.

As for the the actual adapter, no idea. It is really odd looking. Does it go in the GBA slot?

Well, Guitar Hero Decades and (I think) 90's was on sale at gamestop for $3 a month ago (NIB w/ grip). Call your local gamestop to see if it's still in stock.
