If you have a dslite on and closed and a dsi open and set the dsi on top of the dslite perfectly aligned, the dsi screens shut off xD

Thats because when you close the ds it touch a magnet which causes it to go on sleep mode so when you put it on the lite then it touches the magnet on it putting it into sleep mode

I always wondered how the mechanist for sleep mode worked.

And I am not still sure where exactly on the motherboard the magnet detector is (isn't the magnet itself witch ever speaker, no?)

I've done an experiment - the 'switch' is located on the right hand side of the DS somewhere behind the buttons

It switches off the screen(s) when a magnet is somewhere between the right-hand edge of the lower screen to the edge of DS, and about half-way between the [Start] & buttons up to the right-hand hinge - so your guess of the speaker being the magnet seems possible

The magnetic sleep function is pretty common with clam shell devices.
My netbook and my local comm college's laptops both have magnetic sensors in them as well.

Yeah I wish I could remove that on my laptop for when I plug it in my TV through HDMI and use external keyboard. I need to leave my laptop closed
