The latest game in WayForward's Shantae series has been announced. Revealed by the company in a simple Tweet was 'Shantae 5', which will be a "brand new adventure", and is headed to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and the newly unveiled Apple Arcade. That was all the information that WayForward was willing to divulge, though if the game is launching this year like they claim, more information and footage will no doubt be given soon.

Finally some GOOD news. Hope the apple arcade isn't an indication that this will be an even smaller game than HGH though. Would really like a true metroidvania again like Pirate's Curse.

More Pirate's Curse would be amazing. A little surprise that became one of my favorite 3DS games for quite a while. Thanks for the news, @Chary !

I keep putting off the series because I need to beat RR.
At this point they're making new games faster than I can beat them.

True; I haven't even played that one; had to skip it for a while due to not having a DSi lol. Not like that's an excuse anymore.

I can't even bring myself to finish the crappy Game Boy Color game, though...

Shantae is okay. Felt too much of the "one-off use" with the powerups, rather than clever use of each individual one, but it was still fun in small doses. Hope this one feels more fleshed out. Glad it's getting another game though, seems to be loved by a lot of folks.

The GBC original is frankly the low point of the series. Might've been impressive for the hardware but its extremely obtuse and unforgiving. There's no shame in skipping it entirely.

I hope this game is better than the previous one. Not saying that it was bad, but it didn't seem to be much better than previous attempts in terms of fun gameplay. Sure it looks great and has good soundtrack, but for some reason, I wasn't satisfied when I finished the game unlike the Pirate's curse game. :ninja:

I assume from Wayward independently releasing HGH physically that this one will be too.
Though if they don't I'm sure LRG will help out with that.

Yes, please! Hopefully it gets a physical edition I can put with the other 3 for PS4.

EDIT: And I hope it's the beautiful art style from the last one and they don't go back to pixel sprites again.

I mean it was the first game of the series so it should be the low point.

First I got some System Shock remake news, then some System Shock 3 news, and now this!!!! 2019 is a good year for sure, I only mourn the loss of Half-Life 3, other than that, things are looking great!

I never expected Shantae to get fully proportioned official artwork.

Awesome! I very recently completed the whole series on my Wii U (including the GBC game which I played as a GBA VC injection via Goomba Color) and was hoping for more! Like others before, I'd prefer a more Metroidvania-like attempt in the style of Pirate's Curse over the more action-oriented Half-Genie Hero.

Risky's Revenge is a quicker playthrough than you might think. ;) It's pretty good but you can feel that it's just the first part of a game that was supposed to be released in episode-form. Pirate's Curse completes it, though.

The dungeons were really enjoyable and better than most of Half-Genie Hero's level design. I think the weak points were the slightly convoluted overworld and annoying enemies (mostly due to the GBC's limited controls). It was easy to farm money and stock up on items and weapons, though, so it's not unbeatable.
