Someone who never saw any Star Wars movie, which do you think is the better way to watch them and why?

I've thought about this dilemma before. I grew up watching 4/5/6 before the others were made, to me they are the 'classics' and a lot better than the technical/arty prequels.

However why not just watch 1-6 through for the story, the story will make perfect sense with a bit of imagination. I recommend though that if you don't like the first three still watch the last three as they are very different.

Watch 4 and 5, then 1, 2 and 3, then 6. So you have the sort-of introduction, story, then you have the stunning revelation, then you have a flashback telling you what actually happened, and then you have the conclusion.

Watch 4-6, then skip 1-3. Seriously.

In fact, don't watch it at all [IMG]

Watch 1-6 for the storyline. If you're worried about the 3-4 gap, then watch the older ones first so you can look forward to the flashy stuff (or vice versa if you want old school last [IMG])

Old-school or new, be your pref there. I say play the Lego games in order on console or PC for more interactive entertainment.

    Voted 4-6 then 1-3

    Reason:

If you are never saw SW: When you watch from 1-3 first i think you will not want to see 4-6 anymore
If you watch 4-6, your eager to know the things that happened before and will watch 1-3

If you saw SW before 4-6 then 1-3, you can aswell try to watch them from 1-6 [IMG] and descide for yourself

    1-3 to lower your expectation
4-6 to get blown away due to extremely low expectation

Star wars, save one or two of the games and the clone wars cartoons, has never really enthused me (way I see it although chronologically Star Wars was first many other films (that I saw before) have done it better).

+1 to veho's second list and have a look at the dark forces/jedi knight series of games.

Start at 4-6 the way the films were original released. I can remember watching empire when it was first released, the shock when I found out Darth Vader was Lukes father. Watching the episodes in order ruins this. I see watching them in order is the most popular. All the people that never saw the trilogy originally would have voted that way.

Just don't watch them - that will be a far more fun way to spend 10 hours.

I'd say watch 1-6, but I only enjoyed 3 and 4 (in that order), found the others incredibly boring. Didn't really care for the whole thing though quite frankly. Don't see what all the hoo-ha is about.

Watch them in the order they were released. 1-3 aren't bad, except for comparitively, so save them for last to flesh out the story. 4 & 5 are awesome, the others less so by a fairly wide margin. Damn Ewoks, the Jar-Jars of their day...

edit: oops, screwed up which were the good ones... I hate the numbering system.. shoulda called the originals AB&C or something. [IMG]

Watch it according how the storyline goes, you save the best for last anyway.

A New Hope introduces the Star Wars universe, it gradually introduces all the elements you need to know, it is a great intro to the whole series. Episode 1 just drops you into a whole universe, and more or less requires that you know at least something about the whole thing. As I've said before (a few times, in fact), the best way would be to watch Episodes 3 and 4, then, after the shocking truth is revealed, watch episodes 1, 2 and 3 (and Clone Wars, they are just great), to see how it all came to be that way, and then watch the conclusion, because it really is the conclusion to the whole thing, and should be watched last.

I already saw them all years ago. I grew up with 4-6 and watched 1-3 later as most of you. We're a group that wants to watch all movies again this weekend and one of us never saw a single movie. So we discussed this.

If you watch them in order (1-6), you don't know what will happen to Anakin and you'll be blown away by the end of Ep3. The negative is that you then already know in Ep4 and 5, that Darth Vader is Luke's father.

veho's order is interesting and I will tell the others about it.
