Hacking Wasabi chip, PAL wii, USA Gamecube games.

Hi,

My brothers D2B PAL wii here has a wasabi chip in it. Everything is fine except the USA backups of gamecube games. They display in the disk channel but reset the wii or stay on black screen when starting. My own wii is also pal but has a wiikey in it and this plays USA gamecube games fine in 60hz.

Is there some firmware upgrade for the wasabi to make USA gamecube games play on PAL (it is version 1) or shall I tell him to just purchase a wiikey and dump the wasabi?
