Gaming Was the original Zelda ever released for the 3DS?

I want to give my kids the experience of the original Zelda, I don’t see a .cia file on any of the popular places to look.

Was it ever released?

It was a Ambassador-exclusive title, if i remember correctly... But you should be able to find it regardless of that. Worst-case scenario, just download a NES/SNES emulator.

i see... iirc, ambassador-exclusive titles were even avaliable on the freeshop, so its not like being ambassador-exclusive makes them any harder to get

It was a sorry from Nintendo for charging $250 for 3DS then a few months later, not even a yr, they cut the price.

Indeed. The 10 NES games weren't exclusive I think.
Not a bad deal though getting 10 GBA VC for $50 effectively. Not bad, but not great, they were all solid titles though. I'm surprised Nintendo never tried to profit off the GBA backwards compatibility, that as far as I can tell works perfectly with every game. I'm sure people would have liked to see GBA VC on the eShop.
