I don't mean to be off topic but I beat this NES till my arms fell off, Used Q-Tips, Blew into the NES and carts till i developed asthma

Any more ideas?
The contacts get corroded. The solution is to make the cartridge touch the contacts in a different place. What always worked for me is after putting the cartridge in, pulling it back out just enough that it still goes down in the machine. I also have had it work when putting it in in an angle sometimes.

If you don't at least get a black/white flickering or garbled image on your tv screen sometimes, something else is wrong.

Of course not, it was bound to happen. I mean they have magazines for pretty much everything. Even for stuff you'll never think of.

I'm guessing Nintendo saw big profit in the thing since they had financial problems, not sure though.
Obviously NES came first, what I was trying to say was they made games sooo damn hard you HAD to buy the magazine. I don't know... I mean Castlevania 2 I accidentally crossed the lake with the heart? in my possession which had the dude at the lake take me to the 4th? castle...it was just coincidence cause that's what you got for beating level 3 however I turned off the game IN the castle to go eat and it took me about 2 years before I randomly had that item in my possession again and got to the fourth castle. Of course after you beat that was when you took the tornado ride..... insanely hard shit to figure out.

I don't think I actually figured out what I really NEEDED to get to level 4 some what like 8 years later when I came across a friends NP....remember if you missed a magazine and played a game later on...got stuck...well you were pretty much SOL and HAD to figure that shit out.

We have discussed how much harder games were in the past on this forum but it was the first time I really wondered if game makers and publishers were working together to make extra money.

Obviously not all old games were impossible to figure out on your own. I remember beating the hippo dude for the first time on Punch Out and how happy I was...that was a great moment for me...but there were games out there that were just fucking nuts. LOL Platoon anyone?

Can't say I agree seeing that the NP mag started in mid88 and the NES was out in 10/85 in limited numbers. For the record it took me a LONG time but I did finish Zelda with no stupid guides, and SMB3 I did find all 3 whistles w/out the book that came out from NP when they were transitioning to monthly. I mostly just used that for that wretched card match game.

I for one still use the NES, got a top loader less than a month ago for little money too and it was barely used...hehe.

My new game gem though is a custom cart made by a local who put Super Mario Bros 2. FDS on a NES cart for me to play. Damn thing works like a charm and it's a blast finally being able to play that lost chapter on real hardware. (www.gamereproductions.com if you want it, FF2, FF3, Adv Island 4, and many more...also 1 snes game DQ5.) The label for SMB on the site isn't what I got, made the guy a new one that matches the FDS label that should pop up there eventually.
