Was anyone a fan of the Yugioh anime/manga?

I did watch the show for some time and also collected some of the cards (mainly just the ones where I thought the art was cool, lol). I haven’t ever actually played the physical card game, though, as opposed to playing it digitally as an original Xbox and GBA game.

awesome! Which ones did you play? Stairway destined Duel, Sacred Cards, Reshef of destruction?

I never played the Xbox game of Yugioh!

I don't like the card game but I enjoyed the manga a lot.
I liked the initial premise of the manga that each story arc was a different creative game. Would have liked if Takahashi had gone back to rewrite the story in accordance to his original idea for the story. And we could have had a alternate universe story based on his first ideas.

I know this isn't the kind of reply you're looking for, but I did watch the Abridged series in college. My friends had found it in the early days of YouTube, and we had a good time watching it, each time an episode dropped. Unlike me, they knew their Yu-Gi-Oh, so they would fill me in on some of the plot points.

At least I was already familiar with 4Kids and their antics, so I got those jokes.

This reminds me, the unofficial series finale dropped just a few days ago. Unofficial but features Little Kuriboh so it's kinda official. Until he finishes the series that is.

I welcome all replies. I also very much enjoyed the abridge series because they would point out like you said the 4kids antics, and also point out and make fun the story elements.

Ha, I'm glad my reply was constructive! After all, everything I know about Yu-Gi-Oh comes from the Abridged series.

To be honest, I'm surprised LittleKuriboh is still making episodes over 15 years later! That's dedication.

I remember the early days of YouTube, where trolls would submit fake episodes with the same naming conventions as LittleKuriboh. It was so rampant, it became a bit in one of the episodes! Good times.

"I summon LittleKuriboh imposters!"
"You can't even tell which one's the real one anymore!"

"It's heavily implied I am punching you" - they really toned down the violence in the anime vs the manga (which I read in French as a way of making it 'educational', but also including some interesting mistranslations such as the Malevolent Warm Beast instead of Worm…), where most chapters seemed to feature the bad guy dying (e.g. the game where Yugi could only move one finger and used it on a cigarette lighter to set light to a puddle of petrol and burn the guy to death).
I actually really liked the D&D storytelling aspect of Magic & Wizards like the different terrain affecting types of monster. This wasn't practical in a real TCG. I've only played it on GBA (Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel), where the fun was about creating synergies that let you melt away your opponent’s life points within a few turns of drawing the final component.
