    Hello,

I don't believe this is widely known, because I learned it the hard way, but if you send your Nintendo 3DS into Nintendo for repairs, they WILL update your console. I sent my 3DS XL into Nintendo a month ago for physical damage, they fixed it but didn't reassemble it correctly. I got it back a month later and noticed they had not assembled the bottom part of the console correctly, so I sent it in to them. All they had to do was take apart the bottom part with the touchscreen and motherboard and reassemble it correctly. I got it back the other day for the second time and when I turned it on I was shocked to see that the firmware had been updated from 9.2 to 11.4. It was still on 9.2 when I got it back the first time, it was only updated in the second repair. This leads me to believe that they have introduced a tactic to stop CFW - by updating consoles that they receive for repair.

Again, I'm not sure if this is widely known and I'm sorry if it is, but I wanted to warn you guys who use CFW.

    Take care.

this is why it's a good idea to make a nand backup and inject sudokuhax into ds internet or ds dlp before you send it in.

Before long, ntrboothax will make even the above unnecessary except for the nand backup.

I have a NAND backup. I don't have that other thing though.

Thank you for trying to help, but this is common practice with most electronics.
With CFW users, they normally just send the device back without even opening it. Installing CFWs actually voids the warranty and thus they are no longer required to help/handle the device.

I sent it in without warranty. They charge a fee when it's out of warranty. The warranty had expired AND I had opened the console myself, which was clearly evident. The engineer would have to be a complete retard to not notice that the console had been disassembled by me.

I just posted this so that some people who weren't aware would be aware.

I edited that post with more info. You will need a ds flashcard. This can be an ak2i and probably a few more to be announced. I have no idea when it will be released but should be within a month's time.

Are you sure its the same console and not a replacement? Remember Nintendo in the past would do NAND data transfers so just seeing your data may not be enough.

The serial number is the same, therefore, it is the same motherboard. And the rest of the 3DS XL still has recognisable scratches. It is definitely the same one. And there wouldn't be any reason for replacing the console. It just had to be taken apart and reassembled.

Just wanted to make sure that wasn't a possibility.

I've encountered companies who will try to repair but then replace if they screw up.

I guess Nintendo of the UK is different from Nintendo of the US. Reports that I've read with the US is that they just send the system back when there's evidence of tampering and or hacks. These could just be isolated cases, I never really pressed that much into them.

Most companies will fix any system anyone sends in as long as the user is willing to pay the price, the whole "if you have already opened/modded it they will refuse" is only applicable to warranty repairs, but in 99/100 cases they would be more than happy to repair a out of warrenty console even if you trashed it as they are usually making a fair bit of profit on each repair anyway

Updating firmware is standard practice for companies doing warranty repairs on their products, I'm surprised they didn't update it the first time. You could probably request for them not to update it, and to avoid seeming suspicious tell them your save data was corrupted last time you updated and you don't want to risk it happening again
