I'm hoping nobody asks me for money, because this month could see me getting one of my expensive wish list items. A 1TB PS4 is one of those.

Ooh... no matter how good the deal is, stay far FAR away from WalMart for anything you plan on spending over $20 on. I got burned, big time, when I bought a NextBook from them; after two weeks a defective chip began to literally burn a hole in the screen itself. Took it back, described the problem, and was told to basically shove off because it had been sixteen days. SIXTEEN DAYS.

That's right- you only get 15 days before they've got your money for good, even if it's merchandise with a manufacturers defect.

o3DS? They're all below 9.2. If it's the one I think, then it went out of production a long time ago.
Not necessarily. The yo-kai 2ds bundle is 9.9, and if this XL is a fresh production run, it will be a high firmware too.
We never had 3D land in an XL bundle (europe did), so it 's likely a fresh run.

Wait what? Don't you get any kind of warranty?

You would think so, but since it was purchased at WalMart, you run into this little snag.

"If you purchased a product and you are not satisfied with the product, please return the product to the location you originally purchase the product. Nextbook is unable to accept any return on a product that was not purchased directly from Nextbook."

Fun times, fun times.

They might not be able accept a return since it wasn't sold by them, but you should be able to request a working replacement or a repair for your device under warranty assuming the issue wasn't caused by user mishandling.

Nextbook Warranty said:
ONE YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
The Company hereby warrants to the original retail purchaser of this product that should this product or any part thereof, under normal use and conditions, be proven defective in material or workmanship within one year parts and 90 days labor from the date of original purchase, such defect(s) will be repaired or replaced with reconditioned product (at the Company's option) for parts and repair labor. This limited Warranty is the purchaser’s exclusive remedy for any such defect(s).

To obtain repairs or replacement within the terms of this warranty, please visit at
www.nextbookusa.com. USA. Proof of warranty coverage (i.e. - dated bill of sale) is required.

I didn't have to go to that level, thankfully; when I had initially attempted to return the product and got snapped at by a bored, snyde woman at Walmart customer service, I had a chat with the store manager. After a bit of a talk, "just this once" he ignored the fact that I had missed the return date by a bloody day. Squeaky wheel sort of thing or whatnot.
I wouldn't try it again though.
And every time I go in there for whatever that woman gives me a rather frosty glare.

costumer service is just for look good to the public... "hey guys, we got a great costumer service"
even if its the worst one, you can't say they don't have it...
when you try to "use them", their job is either to make you go away or calm your tits down..
i had to go to costumer service several times, every time either the dude is in a very bad mood, or i am greeted by a person that doesn't know anything about it and i leave without learning a damn thing...

the nice ones can be the worst ones... they will shove you away with simpathy. if you are rude, you loose the reason. if you are also nice they pretend to do something and tell you either the thing you already know, or a "sorry sir, we can't blabla"

There is no 16 day return policy on DEFECTIVE products. Pretty much everything has a 1 year warranty or more for manufacturer defects.
I'm assuming you lost your receipt or something stupid and this is entirely your fault, and now you're crying on the internet leaving out important details to try make Walmart look bad.
Walmart is one of those stores that has been sued SO many times they have -very- lenient policies.

Everything you've just said is completely wrong. The return period for laptops is the same regardless of defect, I had both the reciept AND the debit card I used to make the purchase, and the result was the same.

the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now

    Interesting lol

I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding

When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
