When I try to load up USB Loader GX on my vWii it gets stuck on reinitializing devices, sometimes very rarely, it actually goes through and shows my games, but it's only happened like 3 times, out of the many many times I've tried to use USB Loader GX. I know it's not a hard drive issue because it works flawlessly on my real wii, it's just the vWii that is giving me trouble.

I don't have any answers, but I wonder if you could try a workaround that worked for me. Download Nintendont then launch that first, and wait until it asks you to select SD or USB (I don't think you have to have any Gamecube ISOs on the HDD). Then press "home" to go back to the Homebrew Channel. Now launch USB Loader GX.

This made everything work correctly.

I don't think that was the reason, I think your wii u just started producing enough power to the usb drive

So is there any way to replicate this without opening Nintendont? A setting in USB Loader GX (or WiiFlow Lite) to wait for the Wii U to provide more power? It is just Nintendont works out of the box every time.

The Wii U's usb ports do not provide enough power for a hard drive (I've read that very few HDDs and SSDs that require less power might work, but I've had no luck so far). Even if you manage to get past the reinitializing devices message the drive is still not getting enough power, so it won't display your games, and if it does, selecting one will just give you a black screen.

So your only reliable options are using a Y cable, modifying your usb ports so they can provide enough power or using an SD card instead.

My issue is explained in more detail on my thread (USB Loader GX Only Works After Running Nintendont)

I have a Y cable plugged into both ports on the back, with the data plugged into the top port. Another HDD plugged into the front port is for Wii U games.

Everything works correctly when the front (Wii U) HDD is disconnected.

If everything is connected, I get stuck at "reinitializing devices" and require pulling the plug.

If everything is connected and I open Nintendont first, exit back out and then open USB Loader GX, everything works.

I was open to it being a power issue (as there were two HDD connected) but even if I wait 15 minutes between exiting Nintendont and opening USB Loader GX everything works (I assume this would be plenty of time for the vWii to "power down" the USB ports.

Again, the usb ports are not providing enough power, having both drives connected at the same time draws more power from the console. My guess is that when you open Nintendont, it selects the drive with Wii/GameCube games and the other drive is put to sleep due to inactivity.

A very easy fix is to connect the data port of the Y cables to your console, and the other port directly to a power outlet, that way you can have both connected and working at the same time, or just use @SDIO's USB Partition, so you can have Wii/GameCube and Wii U games on the same drive.

I only have one Y cable at the moment, but I do have a powered USB hub. I have the data cable plugged into the top port, the USB hub connected to the left front port. I then have the power cable (from the Y cable) plugged into the hub and then the Wii U HDD plugged into the USB hub (and of course the hub is then plugged into the wall power socket).

I still have this issue, Nintendont solves the issue, disconnecting the Wii U HDD from the USB hub also solves this issue.
