I'm near sighted and heard about how these pinhole glasses can improve vision. Is it really true? If it's not are there any other way of improving vision without laser surgery?

Why not wear glasses? They're in again, and there are so many cool models now!
When I got tired of my glasses, I got contacts, no problems with those.
I've thought about the laser surgery but decided against it, it creeps me out!!!
