I was browsing around aliexpress for flashcarts and i stumbled upon a repro for virtua racing megadrive/genesis. Is this even possible? I thought virtua racing needed the SVP chip to work?
Feeling kindof curious at a 3,99$ pricepoint...

I have not really followed the repro market for the megadrive/genesis but yeah you would be right and it would need the chip, assuming it is the megadrive/genesis version and not the 32x one which was a stock 32x cart I think. In the case of the SNES and GB/GBC other games using the bonus chips/mbcs/mappers/whatever were found and used for the parts, and in the case of some flash carts the chips were recreated in FPGAs and the like.
It is the only release game with it though so I am not sure what goes here. It is not an expensive/terribly collectible game though so prices are not as bad as some of the SNES stuff that used fancy chips.

If you do get it do take some PCB pics and share them.

I'm affraid i splurged my excess cash on a n64 ed64plus a edmd a playseat combo and a dreamcast lot. I'll have to wait to get it. I am however very interested to see what they've done and if it even works. I've seen the snes repro's with pcb's from things like doom and other sfx games. but this seems to be a normal size cart. Not the 32x version.
I'm not sure if anyone else is interested to get it sooner. I could link it but i'm not sure if i'm allowed. If i do get it i'll be sure to take some pictures and share my info.

Yeah linking repros is functionally not a lot different to linking a SD card/USB drive full of ROMs so best not to. Sounds like you found a more enjoyable use for your fun stuff money anyhow.

Ok thanks for clarifying :) and indeed I did, but I overdid it a little bit this month, but i'll keep myself busy for a while with all those things.
Now only need a saturn to "complete" my collection. Finding one with an action replay cart is going to be a bitch...

I assume you saw the latest development in Saturn stuff (edit must remember to link things I mention like this http://gbatemp.net/threads/the-sega-saturn-drm-has-been-cracked-after-twenty-years.434065/ ), if so I would be a bit torn between waiting to see what comes of it and buying one before the prices shoot back up.

That said as far as this "classic" (I feel old calling Saturn classic) game collecting things go the standalone action replay for the saturn is not the most.

Indeed I did see the news :) but I'm betting on the action replay method since we don't have anything released just yet. I am considering getting one soon, I just started collecting the sega consoles I want. megadrive and dreamcast were higher on my list since i've got some nostalgia feeling towards them. I really would like to have a saturn because i never even saw one in the flesh. It seemed like the first time i heard about it back in the day was when it was being discontinued, but it was the best looking console design i had ever seen and that intrigued me. Not a lot of games that i want to play on it, just the few exclusives... if only we had a sonic game for it.

At first I thought there were not a lot of Saturn games I would be up for (thought it would probably just be a bomberman machine), then I went looking at the shmup library and some of the continuations of things.

I would have to do the Phantasy Star collection as well

Some translations have also happened, including Shining Force 3.

and to cap it off

More to the Saturn than I thought, possibly for you as well if you also grew up in Europe.
