So i've 'obtained' the Cowboy Bebop series, but at the start of each episode, there is the 'tag' of whoever ripped them and the IRC channel
Now this takes up 1/4 of the screen, and lasts a good 2-3 minutes

Is there anything that i can edit this off with? I'm assuming it's some kind of layer put ontop of the video itself?
Usually i can handle it, but when it's sooo big, it gets slightly irratating

I would doubt that its a layered video. Not even sure those exist unless it's just subtitles...? It's most likely encoded into the video stream itself. But I'd like to be proved otherwise.

Yeah, you can block out the tag, but the block itself will still be there covering the picture. What I mean you can make it a solid black or something, but you can't get th picture back -- unless you find copies of the vids where the picture is there and overlay it then re-encode.

The Cowboy Bebop series is available everywhere, so you shouldn't have that big of a problem finding one without the tag.

Logo removing is a pain to pull off well but you can certainly ease the problem.
I suggest reading the help file from this virtual dub filter:
    http://neuron2.net/delogo132/delogomanual/delogo.htm
and using FFDShow (which I am 99% sure you have installed and are using to watch these, double click on the black FF icon in the system tray and go to logoaway) to remove on the fly (the syntax should all be the same although if you post I will try and help).
