    Hello all, I am having a very unique problem with my wii.

    I searched hi and low for anybody that might have this problem but did not find anything related.

    So yesterday I was installing some channels to my wii using wad manager, everything went ok.

    After installation I rebooted wii as instructed.
    When the system menu came up, it said wii system memory full --> naturally I went to my data management to free up some blocks.

    Here's where my problem started.
    I decided to delete the internet channel b/c it takes up alot of room.
    During deletion, however, it never completed the process. It was stuck on erasing for over 45 minutes and no luck.

    I got tired of waiting that long so i decided to turn it off (holding the power button for 5 secs method).

    Again i get the wii memory full message. I then try to go back into my data management and I get a blank white screen with the tabs on top and back button on bottom. None of my channels or wii data came up, nor was I able to press any of the buttons on the screen using my wiimote (i was able to manuever the hand around).

    I hit the home button and select Return to system menu. The screen goes black and nothing ever happens after that.
    I tried unplugging for 30 minutes and plugging back in and even tried maintenance mode but still got that message. The wii was giving me no options so after countless hours of searching for a solution online (here and other forums), I decide to format my system memory.

    I did this hoping it would solve everything but further problems came. I performed the format wii system memory; it took forever so i left it going overnight. I wake up and its still doing the format. I thought that it was ridiculous and i just turn off and on again.

    My space was freed up, I could even play my regular wii games again, I thought i was good.
    I tried accessing my wii data management like before but again, a white screen with options that cant be selected for some reason.
    It wasnt too important to me anyway.
    I put the hackmii installer into my SD card to get the homebrew again that i had lost in the formatting.
    When I access the SD card menu, it just stays stuck on "loading from SD card" forever with the little blue boxes moving around.
    (Note, i've hacked all my friends wiis in these last couple of months)

    I take the SD card out and try it on 2 of my friend's wiis and it goes straight into the bannerbomb installation like it should.

    I'm at a loss at this point with no idea what to do. I could no longer play backups, install anything thru SD card, manage my save data/channels.

    This looks like some kind of data corruption in the filesystem.
    I've tried formatting system memory time and time again but it always stays stuck in the process forever.
    I could still access my system settings, play original games tho. I'm not sure if this is considered a semi-brick.

    If anybody can somehow identify this issue and help me with a possible solution, that would be great.

    Wii system menu 4.2 USA

    The only thing I havent considered is getting a new game like the New super mario bros and have it update the wii to 4.3 but then I still wont be able to do homebrew or play backups.

    I can post videos showing what happens if it makes it easier to understand.

    Sounds like some sort of filesystem corruption. New Super Mario Bros updates to 4.1, the first game with 4.2 was Endless Ocean: Blue World. You can softmod version 4.2.

    Try SaveMiiFrii to boot the game.

    Thanks for that suggestion. I got all the files I need to go thru with it. I don't mind it wiping out everything on my wii just so I could get it working properly again.

    The thing is, theres no way for me to start the formatter.
    Bootmii doesnt come up when i turn on the wii. After the wii system format, I don't even know if I have bootmii anymore.
    I hacked my wii ages ago so i have very little memory on if i installed bootmii as boot2 or not.

    If I could somehow get bootmii to start up automatically right when I turn on the wii then I would be able to do this successfully. Theres no other way for me to load the elf on my retarded wii.

    Use the Stack Smash exploit if you have an original Brawl disc and are in the USA (your profile says you are). Use it to run the hackmii installer, and install bootmii as boot2 and HBC. Make a NAND backup after installing bootmii.

    If you cannot install bootmii as boot2, I would not use the nand formatter, since you could have a $200 paperweight if it fails.

    I gonna ask my friend to let me borrow his brawl. Sadly I hated brawl so much that I sold it a year ago (i'm a melee player [IMG] ).

    Yes my wii, when working right, had the ability to install bootmii as boot2.
    Its a very early model wii. Brought it about 2 weeks after it was released in the US. I heard the later models could'nt install bootmii on boot2.

    I will have to wipe my system clean with the formatter tho b/c anything barely works. The wii's own formatting prooved to be useless.
    I'll report back after i've tried it.

    Thanks again guys.

    Crap, so I did the brawl exploit, it worked. I got the homebrew and bootmii goin, the wii was still acting strange so I decide to do the comex's formatter and again similar problem. it says installing ~EULA.wad, it does it then it goes to installing IOS17 and stays stuck there forever.

    I really think something is up with the filesystem on this wii, it's like it doesnt let any installation finish.
    Good thing I installed bootmii as boot2 so bootmii comes up as soon as I turn on the wii. but when I try the system menu or homebrew I get a wii with black screen (no signal) that does nothing.

    I only had a 512mb SD card at the time so I couldn't backup my Nand.

    Just now, i got my hands on a 2GB from a friend.

    What are my options now?

    Someone elses nand backup may not work for you... It seems (just a guess) there are newly introduced bad blocks in your nand flash...

    If you are able to backup your flash using bootmii then it's good that low level access has no problems...

    Then maybe that nand formatter tool could be extended to create fake files on those bad blocks so filesystem never have a chance to use them...

    Well, these are just educated guesses...

    Seems like DeadlyFoez answered the Q about bad blocks...

    As for Comex's NAND formatter, it's been known to freeze when installing WADs. Happened to a friend's wii when he used it. The only wads required for a wii to boot are:
    * System Menu
    * EULA
    * Region Select
    * IOS15, IOS31, IOS36, and the IOS used by the menu (4.0/4.1 needs IOS60, 4.2 needs IOS70).
    (The IOS15 and IOS36 are really for the Hackmii installer and HBC. IOS31 is used by the EULA and region select.)

    Put only those titles on the SD. Leave the IOS17 and everything else out. Once you get the thing booting, you can install the other stuff with tools like Dop-Mii.

    If it fails again...well, there's always cboot2 assuming you can get the IOS36 installed.

    The nand is just a bunch of transistors and stuff, why do you think a bad block was not introduced later? Well it's not a magnetic media and it has no moving parts but still I think it's possible...

    Thanks alot guys. I'm going to try techboy's choices for IOS since my original choices were different. I was formatting it to install menu 3.2. I'm gonna try the 4.1 with the wads mentioned in your post.

    I already downloaded a Nand dump but don't know the keys to my original Nand. I got bootwiin and the programs needed for it to run. I'll take that route after i've tried the comex's formatter again.

    As for the version. I've been using 8468 comex's formatter release dated oct 29. Is there a newer version?

    Alright so the Nand formatter completed. Though it only installed the EULA, Region select, IOS 60, IOS 31, and system menu 4.1US. For some reason, it didnt bother installing the other wads (IOS15,36)

    I'm getting that Opera white screen that says, you tried to access the address marc eu/eu/eng/setup//startup_index1.html which is currently unavailable.

    I seen youtube vids on how to fix that but i dunno, im gonna keep messing with it.

    update..
    what in the world? I did the savemiifrii and its saying I got system menu 4.1EUR. I double checked all the files and none of them are EUR.
    Is there specific versions of the IOS that I have to get or something?

    Hackmii should use whatever IOSes you have installed. It will typically use the highest numbered IOS with a valid signature for the HBC. If you had 3.4 and you have up to IOS55, it'd use that.

    I said IOS15 and IOS36 because the installer frequently uses IOS15, and I wanted to be sure an IOS for the HBC existed.

    I've never had to use Comex's formatter before. If/when a Wii's nand gets a new faulty block, how does it get mapped as bad? Does the Wii do it automatically at some level, or does the Wii's formatter or Comex's do it as it works? If the BootMii NAND dump runs into one, does it mark it for you?

    Use cboot2 and system settings replace mod, restore the ntsc settings.txt. Or if the fails, restore the pal settings.txt, then fix your region issue.

    Deadlyfoez and Techboy, you have my greatest gratitude in helping me to get this working. The compiled Nand formatter did the trick. Wii now working perfectly and reinstalled all hacks n stuff. Couldn't have done it without all your help. Thanks again guys [IMG]
