    Hi Guys,

I know someone asked a similar question recently, but I can't quite find the post and I am trying to assemble all available information and I've been doing so for the past few hours now and figure it might be easier to just ask.

I have a New3DS running 9.0 with the bluecardfix installed and the profile hack installed in NVRAM. I can boot in to 9.0 SysNand and EmuNand with a gateway cartridge, but I do not own a copy of Cubic Ninja.

In addition, I have an Old 3DS running 4.4 and 9.8 Emunand on rxTools. Again, I don't have Cubic Ninja but I do have FBI CIA installer.

Basically, I want to know if there is any way on either device, without Cubic Ninja, to get VC CIA games running. I installed the AGB_FIRM fix on both the old and new 3DS and tried to install a GBA CIA (Castlevania - Aria of Sorrow), but when I try to load the game, I get a blackscreen and the console freezes and I have to reboot to get it working.

Thanks for any assistance you might be able to provide.

    ~ LR

The o3DS should be possible with rxTools. N3DS you'll need Pasta or similar, so you'll need CN.

Just figured this out after having same issues as you, install the title to sysnand and then from the RX screen select Dev mode instead of RX mode

Thank you, thank you. It works perfectly. :)

So New3DS wise, I either need a Cubic Ninja cart or wait until there is a method of launching CFW without CN?

Cool, figured as much. By the way, I am an out of work Java/C/C++/.NET developer interested in looking in to the dev side of this scene. I realise there are plenty of posts, stickied and otherwise with basic dev/hacking FAQs/Tutorials/Specs but I'm struggling to find the core posts/wiki pages to get a handle on it. The wikitemp page regarding the exploits is a little haphazard and is by its own admission out of date and somewhat incomplete.

Any advice on where I should go to start/some good resources to get a handle on this stuff and potentially look in to contributing myself to try and solve similar issues? Is there perhaps a better place to look/ask? Thanks.

If you want to get into HB dev for 3DS, you'ld be best of installing ctrulib (look on github page for instructions), and just using the examples included and learn from that. Most 3DS HB out right now is also open source so you can take a look at how they did certain things.

This is also a recomendation: https://github.com/xem/3DShomebrew/blob/gh-pages/tutorial.md#hello-buttons
That is my fork of it as they at some point screwed up badly and though went to a nicer looking version it just didn't include as much info. The tuts are still not that advance but hopefully it will help you get started. I can also help you with specific issues if you PM me.

Thanks heaps for the info. I plan to start some 3DS homebrewing after this first time too, so helpful and prompt responses are greatly appreciated.

But, firstly what I'm looking for are hints/faqs/tutorials/research material etc... for both Homebrew and native exploit profile/mset crash.

Basically, I think I'd benefit a lot and find a way to use my skills a foundation to learn about the process and start using any skill I do have (admittedly, minimum assembly but C/C++/Java/.NET are the primary languages I know well.

I know we almost certainly already have too many CFWs, plus it seems inevitable soon one of those CFWs will work on N3DS without Cubic Ninja and only gateway, I noticed on another Custom Firmware thread on here the author would like someone to port it to N3DS, which is exactly where I start.

tl/dr I want to apply my existing expertise and gain new experience by first understanding what the limitations are on a N3DS other than an o3DS, from a technical standpoint. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh well, went to JB HiFi and had their last remaining copy sent from NSW to Victoria and bought it for 6 bucks.

Makes up a bit for having my previous copy, brand new N3DS, Sky3DS, Gateway, Super Card DS2 and half a dozen legit cartridges all in the same case stolen on xmas day by someone at Maroondah hospital after my partner had a medical emergency.

    Fun times.
