You can change the rom back.

You can change it back by resetting, but if I continue playing after exiting the VC without reinjecting, and going back in, is the ROM still loaded or do I have to reinject each time?

That's because it doesn't.

You have to have at least one VC for the system you want to inject. The shutterbug2000 version only works with GB(C) games but NES/GG/Genesis games should work too with their own payload.

As far as i can tell from videos the only snes vc game in existence is dbz super butouden 2 which had a release before extreme butouden pre order bonus in a game called J Legend Retsuden.

I've already been over this. Sleep mode, official Nintendo emulators, all system features keep working, etc. Also, DS doesn't even have VC.
