So, it's Valentines Day, and I'm broke. So is my girlfriend, we both spent a ton of money on rent and groceries, and yes, I bought new shoes for 30$, but I actually needed them. (My old ones tore open, and there's a fuck-load of snow here, haha.)
ANYWAY.
We were both aware that we couldn't spend any money on each other, but just this morning I said "You know what? I'll surprise her with Dinner tonight, with candles and the whole deal. She'll love it." She then makes a comment about how we can't do anything for each other and it sucks, but you can tell she's hinting at the fact that I Can't do anything for her. : / Ah well, anyway. I then say "Well, maybe I can." And she says "What can you do?" And I say "Well, it's not like i Have any money, but. . who says I can't do something special for my baby?"
This is where I'm wondering whether I'm overly sensitive or if she's actually being silly here. . . She then says:
"Well, sure, you could so something, but it's nothing cheezy like flowers, or boxes of chocolates, those are the things I want. . "
I felt kind of stupid, because I kept hinting at the fact that I could do something, and it's almost as if she thought "oh well he thought of something that doesn't require spending much money so I think I'll just throw in how much I want something that WILL cost money, just to stump him." Yes, I'm sure that's not what she thought, but you know what I mean. It just sucks, 'cause I was gonna' go all out tonight, and usually she cooks, but last time I did, she was super grateful and loved it as well, I figured going above and beyond cooking-wise for V-Day would be cute, but I guess it's nothing unless it comes from Hallmark. . . anyway, I just wanted to rant because I have the day off of work today (I had Thursday off but I'm sick so I switched Thursday with Today. . . ) and before my day can even begin, she made me feel kinda' stupid. . I hate it, uggh. Anyway.
Happy Valentines Day to the rest of you, though. Seriously.
