According to a post on NeoGAF, buyers of used Wii U consoles will have access to any content previously owned by the old owner digitally.

This appears to be because content licenses are tied to the system, not your Nintendo Network account. This means that any users of a Wii U console that had games purchased on it can use that content, or on the flip side, Nintendo Network users can't transfer their game licenses from system to system. So even if you wipe your console clean and remove all traces of your account, your game licenses for digital purchases are still tied to it.

Currently, the only way to remove this is by sending your console to Nintendo's customer support. So far, only Nintendo of America has confirmed to do this as well.

If you're a Wii U user (or Wii User) and looking to trade in the console and have digitally purchased games, just be wary. Once you trade in the console, it looks like you'll lose all those games as well.

This is really smart. If I busted a few hundred bucks on digital content I have to send them back to Nintendo to get a transfer. It's a very easy process I know.

Don't trophies work the same? I don't know because I have never connected online.

The WiiU has no trophies, and if you're talking about the PS3, those are linked to your PSN account, not console. I have had something like three broken PS3s, so I know.

I don't think so. I moved from my old broken Vita to a new one recently and all my trophy data is stored online. Digital content also transfers from system to system.

Well it's a username and I'd think at least achievements are tied to your account.

I thought there were no achievements whatsoever? It might be used for Miiverse though, although I'm not sure about that either.

    Nintendo has achievements?
Another thing is that premium network service blah blah where you get points for buying stuff and can redeem those points

I thought Nintendo had achievements for the Wii U.

If not, then yeah, get with the times.

Not to be that guy but there have been an array of issues regarding the Wii U so far. Most of them online related.

And there's been quite a few stumbles in general as well.

Wonder if they'll ever fix it and link purchases to the NN account.

Here's a solution, don't buy a used Wii U or sell the one you currently have. Don't buy a console you're going to lose interest in the same day you get it, either. I'm sure hackers (FailOverflow or whatever their name is) will find a way around this or at least find a way to backup the Wii U NAND.

Doesn't look like too much of an issue to fix with a System Update.
