I was wondering if anyone found a solution to this problem? I have a very similar situation where I need to first load USB Loader GX with IOS 58, then change the IOS to 249, exit USB Loader GX, plug in my HDD (Seagate with Y cable) and relaunch USB Loader GX. After these steps I can see all my games (gamecube and wii) and everything works fine.
Here is a breakdown of the different scenarios:
1
a) I keep the drive plugged in.
b) Start USB Loader GX on IOS 58
c) USB Loader GX will start fine but the drive will not mount.
2
a) Keep the drive plugged in.
b) Start USB Loader GX on IOS 249
c) USB Loader GX will crash while loading the drive.
d) Need to then unplug the Wii U because holding the power button does not work.
3
a) Unplug the drive.
b) Start USB Loader GX on IOS 58.
c) Change the IOS to 249 in the settings and exit to the Homebrew Channel.
d) Plug the HDD and start USB Loader GX.
e) USB Loader GX loads fine and show all my games.
4
a) Keep the drive plugged in.
b) Make sure that USB Loader GX does not mount the drive on start and set the IOS to 249.
c) Start USB Loader GX, it will not crash because it is not mounting the drive.
d) Go in the settings and mount the drive.
Method 3 works fine, but it is very annoying to have to plug and unplug the drive every time as well as having to change the IOS in the settings. I tried a different HDD (Western Digital) also with a Y cable. I wonder if this could be because of the type of portable hdd I am using? Maybe I need to get a drive that connects directly to an AC source?
Method 4 worked a few times, but it also crashed the system quite a lot and requires a hard reboot.
