I tried Fat32 first with my new 256GB Sandisk drive. When it didn't work with USB Loader GX, I remembered that my 128GB was in WBFS format. Reformatted it using WiiBackupManager (I've never used WBFS Manager) and it worked perfectly.

I installed USB Loader GX onto my vWii but it keeps crashing and locking up with the attached dump. Any ideas?

My Wii U has been jailbroken using the current Tiramisu technique and I'm usig a usb hard drive formatted in NTFS with a wbfs folder and the games are in wbfs format. I do have a solit power cable for the drive.

Installed CIOSes patched as per your link and all working perfectly. Wii games saving to emuNAND on hidden HDD all fine. GC via Nintendont also has working saves (well, as working as I ever get them to be). Tested on both original Wii and WiiU vWii.

Thanks so much for your help, @fledge68 , @blackb0x (looks like nothing for you to do, was CIOS), and @XFlak (modded FAT.app probably is a worthy addition to ModMii, as you say).
I have just created a beta version of ModMii that is able to build d2x-v10-beta52-Stealth cIOSs, is anyone able to test if emunand saving works on a ustealth hidden drive? Just PM me for the latest ModMii beta, build the Stealth cios wads and install them, enable emunand game saves on your usbloader, and hide the drive using ustealth, and report back.

Assuming this works, should this be the recommended cIOS instead of plan d2x-v beta 52? Are there any drawbacks to the Stealth version?

Any ideas?

Assuming you're using my version and not the older SourceForge version then it might be because you're using NTFS or it could be Tiramisu, since I've seen reports of it crashing the HBC and forwarders.

Try using FAT32 and if that doesn't work then I'd like to know if WiiFLow also has issues for you?

Any update on the 8th release?
I recently discovered a bug that's present in all past and current releases of both USB Loader GX and WiiFlow, so that's put a delay on things.

Hi, WiiFlow would just lock up on me. I have formatted my HD to Fat32 and will be making sure my version of USBLoader is the most current and trying again.

Hello,

To see which version of usb loader gx you have installed, go to the folder ==> APPS ==> usb loader gx ==> Meta, open with notepad or word pad on your PC and you will see the installed version = => example: <version>3.0 r1268<.

Where
in gx settings:
Parameters ==> Credits (top right, version)

latest GX releases:
==>https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbloadergx/files/Releases/New revisions (3.0+)/
Where
that of @blackb0x (version modifiée) ==>https://gbatemp.net/threads/usb-loader-gx.149922/page-1316#post-8856063

ok so my version has the deflicker option which is the enhanced edition right? In the menu it has the "Update" option. If i click that and nothing happens then it means no new update. When a new version of the usb loader comes out that update button should work right?

yes, you can, (with the wii connected to the net) it should update.

or you replace the ""boot.dol, icon, and Meta"" in your APPS which you replace with the link I quoted on my previous post.

Ok guys so last year in 2019 I fired up my Wii on my OSSC and was absolutely shocked at how terrible the image quality was. It was a lunch Wii connected via Component cable to the OSSC at 480p x2 so 960p. Dreadful. It was set to 16:9 on my Oled C8.

Since then I’ve been on an expensive and difficult journey to get the best possible image out of a stock Wii. Which is hard due to soooooo little information and so much misinformation.

So I feel I’m almost there and here is my journey so it might help some of you. Trust me USB Loader plays a key role.

The biggest and most impactful change by far is the brilliant option to turn off the deflicker in the brilliant enhanced version of the USB loader. This was a game changer. A few games won’t work with it but most do. Add that the fix for the 480p bug and now it’s starting to look much better.

Then I messed with the sampling phase in the OSSC which is ultra difficult on Wii since it’s so hard to get it but settled on 180. This helped clear the image a bit.

Next by some miracle I found someone on twitter that had a Wii Dual to sell me and install and after months of waiting he finally installed it on a Black Wii with gamecube inputs I purchased from Ebay. This means the black wii is supposed to have a sharper image than my launch Wii and more so with the Wii Dual.

Then I purchased Retrovision component wii cables. So I plugged my new black wii with wiidual intalled via component retrovision cables to my OSSC at 480p 2x so 960p on my Oled.

Better but not game changing. It fact I was really disappointed at the slight improvement over my launch Wii with USB loader no deflicker. Mmmmmm frustrating.

Here is the next big game changer though next to the deflicker option. Beautiful 4:3 mode!!! By chance I switched to it and noticed right away how pin sharp the image was vs 16:9!!!!

So after some testing and tweaks (still on going) I settled on my Wii at 4:3 using the USB Loader and it’s deflicker mode. Those two things combined are game changers.

I think it’s because the pixels aren’t being stretched so the 4:3 image actually displays thinner in a lot of games due to the actual internal resolution of the games. So this is annoying that it’s not true 4:3 but hot damn it’s the sharperst image iv ever laid eyes on a stock Wii. It almost rivals my Gamecube with similar set ups and Swiss.

So long story short. USB Loader deflicker off + 4:3 + OSSC 960/Retrotink = the biggest upgrades in quality to a stock Wii. In that order me thinks.

Is there a fix for patches not surviving resets or is this just a bug? Example, the deflicker works on N64 WiiVC (Ocarina of Time specifically is what I tested), but when you reset the game by pressing reset on the console, the filter turns back on.

No. The fix a few years ago allows a stock (original) Wii to absolutely have the same exact quality output as any of the later (-40 -60) models. In short, no later model of Wii has a better image quality than an earlier version that is modded an using that fix. I'm not talking about the more recent fix, but the circa 2019 fix. And yes, I am too lazy to look up the name of that fix, but it specifically fixed something on earlier Wiis that Nintendo had addressed in later Wiis.

I just tried 4:3 on my Samsung 32 inch and it looks... like non-widescreen but otherwise the same. So I went back to 16:9. I'd have to have a really good reason to leave widescreen, and I don't. Your mileage my vary and my image quality on my 2007 Wii on my 1080p Samsung TV is so good that I wouldn't spend a dollar to try to improve it. Then again, I still listen exclusively to Mp3s, so what do I know of real quality?

Am very much looking forward to the new version of USB Loader GX, however.

You are right about the 480p bug fix. Though without USB loader or something else to fix the bug then the Black Wii is sharper.

But I believe im correct about 4:3. I think its a fact that 16:9 Anamorphic widescreen stretches the lines or whatever. It's the same exact resolution just being stretched. So the stretching blurs the image. I tested this on Wii and sure enough it soften the image anytime i went to 16:9. I mean it make sense. This is even a thing on DVDs cause the resolution doesn't change but it's filling more screen with the same resolution so its a softer image.

Also, besides the image being stretched you also see more of the Wii's flaws due to the larger image. Hell some games didn't even account for the stretch and 2D content looks oval instead of a circle. So 2D assets look blurrier and in some instances just wrong.

The Wii in my eyes is just a 4:3 console.

Edit: I just noticed you said 32inch screen. With that size it might be tricky to see the benefits.

Hey guys I’m having some issues with WADs on the USB Loader GX.

So the Wiiware and virtual console games load perfectly fine on the Wii default menu and from the SD card but when I dumped the NAND and then installed the WADS some seem to work ok but I think most just freeze at some point during start up.

I tried messing with some options like turning off patches and IOS250 and IOS249 but I’m afraid I’m not that advance as to go further in my tech support here and I’m always afraid to “break” something by trying to fix something else and really going down a rabbit home.

Any advice here? Thanks! : )

I only ever used my Wii (since 2007) as a 16:9 console, because that's what it is: An SD widescreen console. You could downgrade it to non-widescreen if you wanted, and for obvious reasons it was in that format by default. But anyone with a modern TV switched it immediately and was happy to do so.

And it is hilarious to read that it "might be tricky to see the benefits" on a 32" monitor because if that's the case, there are no benefits. I feel like I'm arguing with an audiophile who is fully prepared to buy an electron microscope to prove that the waveforms produced by 12" 60 gram digital remaster vinyl record are superior to the original recording from the master tapes. I am happy for you that you enjoy 4:3 on your Wii. But it's 16:9 for the rest of us.
