Hi All,

I have been experiencing an issue where my after loading USB Loader GX and browsing my games for awhile the menu will become unresponsive.
These are the symptoms I am categorizing as unresponsive:
Clicking on a game won't bring up the game disk screen.
Images stop loading.
None of the buttons to other menus don't work.
Needs a hard reset to fix.
Wiimote cursor still usable, can navigate back and forth on game list.

I have been mainly ignoring the issue up until now because as long as I get into a game before it occurs everything works fine, it only happens in the USB Loader GX UI. It feels like it get's stuck loading something but I haven't been able to track down what it is stuck on.
I want track down what is causing the issue so I am looking for any information to troubleshoot this issue further.

Would that be the cause of the bug even though I am not using those CIOS with USB Loader GX?
As far as I know hermes CIOS isn't needed unless your playing specific games that don't support d2x v10. Since I am not having issues playing games I don't know if the CIOS matters.
Does the CIOS in IOS222/3/4 affect the CIOS in IOS249?

Game Drive: NGFF(M.2) USB 3.0 SSD enclosure with a M.2 1TB Crucial SATA SSD formatted to FAT32.
Does your enclosure have a light that shows read/write activity and if it does then does it still blink when the menus become unresponsive?

As a test you could try installing your cIOS as follows.

Slot 249, base 56, d2x v10 beta 53
Slot 250, base 57, d2x v10 beta 52
Slot 251, base 38, d2x v10 beta 52

Then set the loader to use cIOS 249, restart the loader and see if it still becomes unresponsive.

If does still become unresponsive then the cIOS might be experiencing a compatibility issue, since you're not using the recommended hardware.

I will see if the light is showing activity during the freeze.

Slot 249, base 56, d2x v10 beta 53
Slot 250, base 57, d2x v10 beta 52
Slot 251, base 38, d2x v10 beta 52
Ok, hopefully this will give us more information.

Is there any debug or logging I can enable to maybe see what's going on inflight?

I have been using a toshiba 2TB USB HDD (toshiba dtb420) up until recently and was experiencing the same issue. I actually switched to the USB SSD in hopes the faster response would fix it. I can go back to using the USB HDD if that will help narrow down variables needed to diagnose the issue.

You could have usb issues without 236, only wii u uses only dx2 cIOS, you must not try to figure out what base is for every game, even if you use IOS 249 wii uses more IOS to load things not just one, remember IOS58 loads the usb even if you got to use the 249, wiiflow got automatic cIOS selection, that helps because some games are a pain because of anti piracy like driver san francisco, only hermes cIOS could load usb 1 port for me, dx2 v10 never loaded in both versions

Unfortunately that isn't possible.

Many years ago you needed to patch IOS236 to grant NAND access, but these days having IOS58 and the d2x cIOS is all you need. That's why all guides no longer mention patching IOS236.

To reiterate this is not an issue with playing games this is an issue with USB Loader GX UI freezing every now and then.

I am currently recording all my sessions using USB Loader GX so hopefully as I am testing and playing I might be able to identify a pattern that will allow me to reproduce the issue.

I think the issue occurs because the drive goes to sleep and fails to wake. That's why I suggested trying d2x v10 beta53, since that's compatible with more devices, but it breaks a lot of things too.

Ok, so I got it to freeze again and the light flashes showing disk activity when a scroll back and forth on the games list but doesn't light up when I click.

It seems the freeze is related to scrolling back and forth because I was able to trigger the freeze by scrolling back and forth on games list and I was able to reliably cause it to freeze. It seems if I am in the menu not doing anything then start scrolling back and forth it will freeze, drive light is still active when I scroll back and forth. It seemed random because when I am deciding what to play I scroll back and forth a lot. That is probably why it happens most often when I am playing with friends, more scrolling to decide what to play.

I also got the same behavior on the Toshiba HDD which the SSD is a clone of.

I have video of reproducing the freeze if you want me to share it.

I will try beta53 and see if that fixes it. Should I also try d2x-v10-b52-ST-FM050?

As a test you could try installing your cIOS as follows.

Slot 249, base 56, d2x v10 beta 53
Slot 250, base 57, d2x v10 beta 52
Slot 251, base 38, d2x v10 beta 52

Then set the loader to use cIOS 249, restart the loader and see if it still becomes unresponsive.
Ok, so I have beta 53 installed (was a bit of a journey since wii update server is down), will see if it freezes on me. I realized that I never really tried slot 250 as the loader IOS to see if the freeze occurs with base 57 beta 52. Would the base make a significant difference? Also if I still want to use base 56 beta52 for the games loader could I load Slot 251 with it and point the games loader setting to it?

Could using loader IOS 58 be the reason for the freezes? That is what it was on and that seems like it could be the reason.

Good Morning.😊
Hi All,

I have been experiencing an issue where my after loading USB Loader GX and browsing my games for awhile the menu will become unresponsive.

How many Games do you have on your SSD please ?
EDIT: Ok,after watching the video,I have seen it - 410 Games.😉

From personal Experience some "HDD (SSD) / many Games Constellations" maybe can have such Issue.
There is not really a "maximum" of Games Limit.
As @blackb0x also already mentioned,it can be some "Sleep/wake" Issue maybe.

For the SSD - maybe it can possibly a "Cache" Issue like in Windows 10/11 if the Option "Write Cache" is enabled....maybe.

Do you maybe have the Cover / Artwork etc. on the HDD too ?
Maybe try it on the SD Card please .

Thank you.😉

Did you previously use r1272 from SourceForge or did you manually configure the loader to use IOS58? Because my version of the loader reads your config file with IOS58, but then it reloads you to whatever you've set the loader IOS to, which should be cIOS 249 by default.

I only suggested using d2x v10 beta 53 in slot 249 because I assumed that you'd already tried using d2x v10 beta 52. In general your cIOS setup was wrong though, since you configured slot 251 to use base IOS58. But once I release the next loader update the recommended setup will be as follows.

Slot 249, base 56, d2x v10 beta 52
Slot 250, base 57, d2x v10 beta 52
Slot 251, base 38, d2x v10 beta 52

I have beta 53 installed (was a bit of a journey since wii update server is down)
The updated d2x installer makes it easy.

I verified on beta53 the issue no longer occurs, going to install beta52 and fix my CIOS installs.
Let's hope beta52 works!

Thanks for the help so far!
