Hello all, I am trying to run Wii games off my HDD. When using USB Loader GX, I can select Wii games, but then I'm sent back to the Homebrew channel. Gamecube games work just fine on USB Loader GX. What can I do? I'm using USB Loader GX v3r1260. Any help is appreciated.

And it works! Thank you so much! I found a similar file from you on these boards a few years ago, and it was giving me an error. However, this one worked perfectly. I spent several hours trying to get this to work before reaching out, and I really appreciate all of your help.

Okay, so I am a COMPLETE noob at modding the Wii but I have experience with ISO's and modifications to other devices so I have a decent basic understanding. I literally just started with the Wii today though and need some help. I've installed HomeBrew and USB Loader GX. I tried to launch my iso for New Super Mario Bros and it just keeps taking me back to the Homebrew menu. I did a syscheck on 249 and "all". I assumed it would save my reports on the SD Card but I couldn't find them so I can't post them as result unfortunately. If anyone could help me and teach me a little bit, I'd greatly appreciate it. I just really want to get it working.

Update: I followed the tutorial below and now instead of returning me to the Homebrew menu when I launch a game, it gives me a black screen and freezes.

Figured out how to copy the report of the syscheck lol. Here we are:

Update again: Finally got it to work. Had to get a new ISO for the game itself. The "scrubbed" versions don't seem to work for me. I'll just steer clear of them...

Try to use ios 250 with your games or switch around ios 249 and 250 because v10beta53-alt is not stable and has compatibility issues.

oh, and also, don't install and try different versions, just install the one I said as that's all you need.

If you are on Wii :
link as provided before
put in your SD card, in the usual place to run (v)Wii homebrew.
launch the installer from HBC.
Select all I told you above.

Hey. I am running usbloader from homebrew channel and being shelled back to hbc when trying to load an iso game from usb as well. I connected my wii to internet for the first time on 2nd Feb 2019 to find out all net services had been dropped from n*nt*nd* pretty much. Have stumbled my way into a homebrew channel install over the last week or so and know nothing much about linux or any of the mods i've been adding. Are you saying to unload usbloader and instead use d2x-cios-installer? Do you have a pc link to load to SD card? Am not impressed with trying to use Wii Browser, any tips on a better browser upgrade appreciated as well. Thanks.

you can simply use the sourceforge usbloader gx. just delete everything on your sd or usb device associated with usbloader gx and start again. here is the direct link: https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbloadergx/

Realised that d2x link was not in compressed wii format. Downloaded to SD root and reran hbc and usbloader and iso game. Still shelling back to hbc.

cIOS are not used from SD, they need to be installed into the console. this is why there is a "cIOS installer".
if you don't understand what you are doing, it's best that you don't try random things. instead, just ask for help until you understand what you have to do, and why.

I started writing a guide to explain how the console is working internally, maybe it can help you understand what a IOS or cIOS is ? it might be a lot of text but it can be useful to understand a console you are using. it prevent any future issues or bad situation due to wrong usage.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/wii-hacking-explained.501605/

it's still missing the hacking part, I only had time to write the hardware/software, and security part. you don't need to read the security, only the first part.

If you want more information to hack your console up to launching games, just ask (maybe after reading my guide first part :P).

So i read "The programs managing the security and hardware access running on the ARM chipsets are called "IOS" (Input/Output System)." and googled to find "The cIOS (custom IOS) is a custom piece of software that is used by some applications that work with unofficial content. By installing it, you can for example use Backup Loaders and install unofficial channels to your Wii menu" so assume you are saying that something needs to be loaded into hbc. Does the d2x-cios-installer file need to be placed in the hbc app directory (or subfolder of app directory) on the SD card?

to complete your knowledge about cIOS, the "custom" part is in fact adding the ability to redirect disc access to USB. so, when the console tries to read the game's data from the disc, it gets it from USB instead.
you might have read that only one IOS is in memory at a time, so other IOS on the console don't have any effect. what you need is to use one specific IOS to do one specific action. here you need to install cIOS d2x AND use it when you play a game.

yes, you need to download the link I posted above, and extract it into sd:/apps/d2x installer/
this is the program which will install the cIOS on the console.
but there is more to it, don't just run it without more info. you need specific information to know what to install, and where.

first thing to know : the cIOS installer is downloading system files directly from nintendo servers.
the servers was planed to shutdown, but I guess they only closed the eShop/games, not the system servers so the installer should still work (though, I need conformation).

second : To use the installer, you also need a specific version of HBC. if it's outdated it won't work.
you need 1.0.8 or newer, though it's still outdated.
recommended version is 1.1.0 or newer.

once you launch the installer, you'll have to select what to install and where.
Like I explained above, you need to install this :

d2x v8 final, in slot 249, using base57, version 65535
if you don't have v8 option, then you didn't extract the package correctly (wrong folder, or wrong zip program).

let it install from network (press A few times to do it), and let me know if it still works.
once installed, exit the installer.

update usbloadergx (as of today, use r1271)
and try launching your game again.

general rule : never use video as hacking tutorial.

Original Wii or on WiiU?
Be sure to plug your USB at the bottom USB port
