Hacking USB Loader GX on vWii: Detects 256gb USB but doesn't show any of my games (most of the time, anyway)

When I checked my settings, it reverted back to 249, like you said.

When I changed it, I rebooted USBLoaderGX and this time it didn’t even TRY to initialize it. It just went straight to the menu with only channels on it.

I am using a y-cable, and the HD’s settings are only set to USB port 1, so I originally thought that it needed to be set to both ports.
However, in order to do that I need the IOS to be 249, as with 58 I get an error message when I try to change it.

Either way, None of my games show up.
I even threw it back on the PC to see if anything got corrupted but nope.

I also checked Wii games in the box thing, so that ain’t the issue either

Welp, all of the fuckin sudden it just decides to work.

I’ll never understand this goddamn thing

Sorry for tagging you again in this old thread, but it’s acting up again.

This time USBLoaderGX sees my games and hard drive perfectly, but whenever I load them up the screen goes black and it reverts back to the Wii menu.

So far I’ve only tried arbitrary stuff, like changing the aspect ratio or the game language, none of which helped.

Again, sorry for reviving this old ass thread. With all the coronavirus stuff I’m going to be locked away at home a lot, so getting the Wii working is very much desirable.

Which d2x version are you using? v10-beta52-vwii or v10-beta53-alt-vwii?
beta53 can have compatibility problems with certain drives, beta52 is supposed to work better (but only works with the first port, on the Wii U this is the top rear port)
If you're not sure, post a sysCheck: https://gbatemp.net/threads/posting-a-system-check.300279/

Also I have a y cable for my hard drive that inserts into the two back ports (which I believe are ports 0 and 1).
What's our next move?

your setup is fine.
your drive content is detected, so I can only "suppose" your y-cable is properly plugged (did you try to reverse it?).

to me, it looks like it's reversed.
it's probably using IOS58 by default (r1272 is set to 58 by default, or you might have set it manually to fix HDD init) which has BOTH PORTS working while inside the loader, so it can see the drive content whatever the order you plugged the y-cable.
but once you launch the game, it reloads to d2x r52, which works only with Port0 !
if your Data cable is plugged into port1, then the console can't find the game and reboots to menu.

Welp, that didn't work, however I was able to get it working by just switching the game's IOS from 249 to 251.

In theory this would make no difference, but what the hell, it worked and that's all that matters.

Thus, Paolo's strange adventures with USB Loader GX finnaly draws to a close, thank you very much Cyan!

hmm, you are right it shouldn't make any differences, but if it does it means using a "base58" helped fix your problem which seems to be a HDD detection issue then.
But be careful as base58 is not working with a lot of games, and some will just boot to black screens.

compatibility wise : 57 > 56 > 58

i really really really wish we could use large usb flash drives (256 or 512gb) even tho they are more expensive, they look better (sandisk fit drive. is awesome)
i wonder if the bootICE formating method will help?

This same issue is happening again.
Everything was fine and then all the sudden no games are being detected.

Last time it just magically solved itself and so far I haven't had the same luck.

Loader IOS 58;
Sees HDD, does not see any games despite sending the HDD perfectly. Tried switching the y cable around, nothing.

Loader IOS 249;
Cannot see HDD. Idk why I keep trying this because it never works but if IOS 58 is liable to stop working at a moments notice then why not.

Basically, all the sudden everything stopped working again. WTF

I'm going to reformat my HDD because I removed a game on there a few days ago. That's literally the only possibility. If this doesn't work I'm convinced that there's a ghost in my machine
