So yeah, I confirmed it's working like I thought it would as I described before:
copy the private folder, codes folder, and gameconfig.txt to SD (and\or HDD depending on your usb-loader settings), then in usb-loader gx (or probably any loader), launch it with ocarina enabled, and this part's important, make sure you set the hooktype as AXNextFrame. Obv you need the NTSC version of the game working already as per usual without any mods before even attempting this

I used the wiimote version of the code instead of the GC one (in order to toggle alternate stages), but I don't think that's working properly but I don't have a GC controller atm to test. Anyway, I'm satisfied, aside from that it's legit working. Pretty neat.

And to play the original version of the game, just disable ocarina.

actually i was thinking about custom themes so I will look into that. But if I understand correctly I have to copy all the files to the root of the sd card (or HDD) turn on ocarina and then launch a ssbb iso in USB loader gx (or other loader)?

You also have to specify AXNextFrame as the hooktype.

Gameconfig.txt and codes need to go wherever gx expects these to be, could be usb or sd card depending on your configuration. The private folder needs to be on SD or SDHC, not usb

so i found an ntsc iso and converted it and split it would it work the same as an iso? (I only split bc of fat32's file limit)
Edit: the wbfs works fine but I don't know where the gameconfig.txt file goes bc Im using wiiflow
Edit2: brawl starts up fine but doesn't seem to load the mod files.

Save it to the root of both sd and usb just to be sure, I don't know where Wiiflow expects it to be, or even if it will accept it. If you can't get it working using Wiiflow, maybe switch to GX to at least confirm you've done everything else correctly.

But in whatever loader, make sure u enable cheats/ocarina and set the hooktype and save before launching the title.

Edit: I'm using a wbfs split files of the game as well, this is not a problem

i've moved the files to the root of the sd card and launched the game thru USB loader gx with ocarina on and the hooktype on axnextframe but it freezes at a black screen after launch

Try the wiimote version of the code saved to sd/usb (this is the only one I tried and it worked, GC version may work too but I'm not sure). Double check your paths are pointing to the right directories in gx's global settings. Make sure you're using the latest version of gx from @blackb0x 's signature. I got the game working using d2x v10 beta 52 with base 57, I haven't tested base 56. So you should use modmii's syscheck updater as I described to install this (as you have base 56 installed to both slots 249 and 250).

Also make sure your sd is formatted as fat32 and compatible with the Wii

i still can't seem to get on wiiflow or usbloadergx. on an unrelated note, I just realized your name on the d2x installer

let's see... i have tried changing the base in iso 249, I have tried starting with a new iso, I've made sure that the paths were pointing to the right place In usbloader gx, I'm using the wiimote version. i think that should be it. but i tried loading not too long ago and i used the characters and they had custom skins but nothing else. i moved some files around and it hasn't happened since.

I dunno what to tell u, doing all that got it working for me. Assuming you haven't accidentally made any mistakes somewhere on the way, the only real possibility I can think of is an incompatible sd card.

You're using the latest version of gx from blackb0x's signature right?

You're sure you have a pure 1:1 copy of the original ssbb?

If this method doesn't work, u can try the hybrid method I described before, it integrates some of the mods directly into a custom iso (following the dolphin directions), but without the cheats and (smaller) private folder on the SD card (extracted from sd.raw) it may not make for a noticeable difference even with a custom iso.

Edit: thanks for the updated syscheck, I see your 249 has been updated, no issues there

i can try blackboy's and idk about the rom i found it here:
i know how to do the custom iso stuff so that should be a breeze. but if that doesn't work then i probably give up. thank you for your help.
