I’ve been using exfat with Retroarch without any issues I cannot say I’ve had a problem so far.

No not at all, it’s rubbish pure speculation what I say is very true and is the lieing issue revolving around MicroSD card & the switch sd reader slot issues, nothing more! exfat is fine to use. Retroarch devs are not gods and do not know everything correctly all the time!

I didn’t say at any time that exfat is equal to no corruption I had once and it’s fine by me, what I didn’t like was the pedantic way you said it and also this thread has nothing to do with sd corruption but why some people is having issues with this auto loader while there is no corruption sign at all and people are affirming that if the auto loader gives you an error it’s because your sd is corrupted.
I’m sorry if I wasn’t polite but the one who came before with the arrogant attitude here was you...
That said, exfat/fat32 is an option not an obligation, if it gets corrupted again I will be the one who will have to spend hours to fix it.
I’m not butthurt at all I just replied you in the same tone or a bit worse and for that I apologize.

The problem can be related to data corruption but ALSO to "too many files on the microSD" (ex more than 30.000 such as rom artbox, screenshots, etc) without any microSD corruption and not related to FAT/exFat. Waiting for a new AutoLoader version.

one thing I can suggest for people is let it sit and build the xci database for initial setting as this may avoid a HOS crash

Recent link to show that the exfat problem hasn't changed since 2018.
I would say you should speak to the devs who have reversed the Switch's file system code and therefore know in intimate detail how it actually works - but you probably shouldn't waste their time, as they've been over it so many times and provided the precise info over and over again to people like you who think you know better based on your own assumptions.

I do know better I don’t care what the Libretro team devs say or anyone on that page for that matter, it’s pure shite and speculation and mainly down to other issues not exfat! The main issue revolving around errors with your MicroSD card is not “exfat” it’s mainly down to a sub-standard MicroSD card reader that Nintendo supplies with the Switch and pushing and pulling an sd card in and out of the reader every 5 - 10 minutes is not what it’s designed to do so therefore you start to get errors.

I told you it's evidence-based, whereas your own opinion is literal speculation. You do you tho, I'm not continuing this any further.

Does anyone know which folders this will scan? Sx installer let's you specify your own folders so you can keep sx menu empty and load everything via installer. It'd be nice to use this plug in similarly.

ok seriously enough of this nonsense, thread derailed, people crying.
i will confirm, as stupid as it sounds, my issue was related to at least one title/folder in /switch/checkpoint/.
How do i know this? i have a ton of files including retroarch&roms etc. i couldn't get past boot without error with this.
so i set up a second switch and dropped only essentials/checkpoint saves/cheats on freshly formatted and emummc partitioned SD. fail.

Tried again removing checkpoint folder, succeeded. added the rest of my files and selected just a handful of checkpoint saves/folders and it boots fine, for now.

plz no more wankers saying exfat yay nay or corruptions

Yeah I was thinking earlier how the evidence-denying exfat supporters are basically the flat-earthers of the Switch scene. Do you remember when we got a genuine flat-earther in the retroarch thread? That was fun.

I read that some xci (custom xci) aren't working on 2.9.2. Is it true?

I guess we were kind of begging for a corruption debate :teach:

Only if it is encrypted for 9.x or it's over 32GB. I think you can still mount them with SX Installer anyway though. As for XCIs that are 32GB and over, until the Switch supports 64GB carts, it won't happen.

No I missed that - it would have been funny no doubt, however I am a member of other forums where you can rip the 'p' out of people all day long if you want. These type of people exist though - It's fun mocking them now and again, flat earthers, sd card corruption deniers, global warming fanatics - these are the type that generally get put in homes later on in life when some family member reports them to the authorities because the saw them wearing a tinfoil hat and drooling at the mouth.

Here's a quote from an article on file systems:
That quote above means - if you're writing some data to an sd card, such as a log or ftp transfer or game save - and the switch/game/program crashes - your file system file allocation table becomes corrupted, some files can't be read as the system doesn't know where to find them anymore. ANYONE using Atmosphere will know this if using exfat and the switch crashes - Atmosphere tends to write crash logs on the micro sd card when it crashes - this causes people using exfat to experience data loss. People should compile their own atmosphere or disable logging to minimise the risk of this happening.

I have to report that this broke my SXOS's XCI album scanning. I removed the autoloader (removed all files in titles) because it always on an error loop but now even if i just browse through my XCIs in Album it still crashes.

Can anyone help me with this? I'm thinking there's a remnant of the autoloader that I wasn't able to delete that is not in the titles directory

For cxci that are over 32 Go, currently the workaround is to use only the base game as xci, and install updates and dlc. Still save a lot of space in the sd
