So, i am trying to decide between 2 Adata HDD's, they cost the same, both are shock resistive and water proof like these ones, they're also identical http://cdn.pcel.com/...eaa0966a20f.jpg .

The thing is, one is USB 2.0 and the other is 3.0.

I'm planning on using it for my Wii backups with USB Loader GX, and with my RGH modded Xbox 360 for loading backups too, and obviously, for saving some personal and private information :Ifyouknowwhatimean:, but the main purpose, is playing my Wii and Xbox 360 backups.

I've been told that USB 3.0 doesn't work with the Wii, and that i have to use an USB 3.0 to 2.0 adapter, however i still don't know if it would work right, the same thing with the Xbox 360, but i can't ignore the fact the USB 3.0 is going to be the standard for the next years.

So my question is, should i go for the 2.0? or taking the risk with a 3.0 using an adapter? Thanks.

I'd say go with the USB 3.0 if both are the same price. As far as an adapter goes, the one out of the box should still work, as it should be backwards compatible, containing both the USB 2.0 lines and the USB 3.0 lines as depicted in this image.

I thought you could use USB 3 devices (i.e. HDD drives) on USB 2 ports (i.e. computers, gaming consoles, etc) but you just didn't get the benefits that USB 3 offers (mainly faster speeds). I.e. they are backwards compatible.

Get 3.0 if the price is the same

Thanks. Do you know if it works well with the Wii?

Actually it doesn't do anything to the Wii if it's 3.0 or 2.0. But in PC, 3.0 has a faster Transfer rate than the USB 2.0.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'll buy it tomorrow (The 3.0 one). I'll tell you what happened :D

I forgot to ask, Have you checked if that External HDD is compatible with the Wii? Check Here: http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/USB_Devices_Compatibility_List

Some aren't compatible with the Wii

That is false. The Wii will only get 2.0 speeds and so will a computer. A computer will get 3.0 speeds only if it has USB 3.0 ports and if the motherboard supports it. Not all computers have USB 3.0 yet. Personally, I'm waiting to build a new computer and get Thunderbolt on it.

Hi again everyone!, i decided to get a 2.0 (Adata Superior SH93 750GB) after all. I realized i would not have an USB 3.0 compatible PC in a long time...so i decided not to take the risk xD. Thanks everyone.

How about Seagate or Samsung? It is better to be sure than to be unsure

Guys, i've found a tutorial that assures that you only have to use a USB 2.0 cable, and its gonna work perfectly. Take a look, the photos are self explanatory. http://www.mediafire...utij4t2pw794yuf

that's pure bs a magic cable wont make the wii go to 3.0 speeds since it doesnt support them in the 1st place! their the same as them so called adapters that CLAIM (it's also bs) to make the wii 1080p

Get USB 3.0. It's backwards compatible, so it should work with your Wii.

Also, pretty much all future storage drives will be USB 3.0, so better future proof your purchase, especially if both HDDs costs the same
