Stupid me .. his wii IS installed as boot2 (just checked the SN, it's LU31)
Stupid me x 2, he DOES have a nand backup (When I saw that it was bootmii as boot2, I KNEW I must have backed it up somewhere..

Well, I'll leave that as a last resort .. All *should* work fine. Thanks guys, I'll keep you updated

No, you don't have them for a custom System Menu. I should know, I'm the one who made that hacks file that kylster has been spreading around, lol.
Who says I dont have that one?

Because it's not normal, and the only person I gave it to was kylster. I told him not to spread it, but I guess he thought doing the exact opposite would be great, lol.

Well the point of the Modified SM is that you it will never get overwritten cause of the high version number and you will always keep your hacks. I have tested homebrew, did official update, disc update, etc. and all that ever gets overwritten is IOS249 so I would have to say this is a safe bet

I too have [email protected] isnt it wonderful?

JoostinOnline, yes you did make me that hash_hacks.ini and I find it very useful; thanks again for going out of your way

Guys I ran into a problem:
one of the steps from the guide is that I have to install a patched ios236, there are two methods for that, and they both require an internet connection. However since this is my friend's wii. He does not have my internet settings, and since I cant access the SM, I can not enter them. In other words, I have no connection on the Wii. Can anyone link (or PM) me to a patched ios236 that I can install (if there is one), or share any info they have on how I can get an internet connection?

Thanks!

Thanks I have it installed. I installed everything I was asked to install, except for these three, I get errors:
- cIOS224[57]-v5
- IOS34-64-v3608
- IOS45-64-v3607

Anything I should worry about?

I believe IOS45 is a Korean IOS but i'm not sure; either way it goes no games I can think of or homebrew run off those IOS so yes you are safe

good work. If your not satisfied with that you could always install a Custom System Menu and then do an official update afterwards to guarantee everything is as uptodate as possible.

Did you choose to install ModMii's optional protection?

ok I just finished installing everything, but I still get the same result: Black screen

One more piece of info I forgot to mention, I failed to connect my wii remotes to the wii. (I have been using a GC controller this entire time)
Now I'm thinking it COULD be a bluetooth module failure

I went to savemii site, checked out their diagram, and I'm scenario D :
http://savemii.net/troubleshooting.html

So I guess I have a hardware failure huh?

For the record, my wii had the bluetooth module busted. I bought one from dealextreme and installed it myself, and my wii is working fine now. But I dont remember being able to access the HBC at that time. This wii is able to do so.

Any thoughts guys?

I do not know about hardware failure but I would imagine if it's boot2 you would not be able to access bootmii since it is in fact installed as boot2 and I imagine boot1 loads befor boot2? It would seem common sense but i'm not sure; logic would tell me your boot 1 + boot 2 are fine if your able to load [email protected] in the end.

If you did a bootmii restore and that did not fix your problem I would use that tool you were linked to earlier to restore but you would need to backup all your saves and Mii's unless you didnt mind losing them.

Have you tried the disc method yet? or using another WadManager? to install your Wads?

Since you have [email protected] and if the other options have failed you, then I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND going about using the cboot2 method found in Mauifrogs guide. It basicly using boot2 to allow you to install any wad whether game or IOS w/o the need of another vulnerable IOS. Heck you could try and resoftmod your Wii with his guide it only takes 15 mins tops when reading and it's super simple; it will even install a Custom SM 4.1 for you.

Well, refer to my post above kylster, it was indeed a defective bluetooth module.
Softmodding is a piece of cake now (in fact, it should already be softmodded lol)

yes its a hardware failure...
sometimes when the PSU got busted the bluetooth module will be busted too.
even though that your BT module got busted. if you have a [email protected] you can still access the wii using it. and if you dump the nand while the BT is dead you'll find your dump to be less in percentage.

No way? Dead BT affects Nand dumps as well??

what would happen if I restore that dump after replacing the BT?

it will return your system to your old dump.

just don't dump your nand while your BT is dead.

when did you dump your nand?
while wii is still alive?
or when the BT is already dead?

Oh no, the dump I had was before anything was dead.
My question was as follows:

if I dump the NAND while BT is dead, then I replace the BT module and restore the NAND, what would happen then
