Upgrading Offline?

    I wanted to watch an .MP4 video on 360 and it said I needed to update with xbox live.. Now I can't find a wire/cable/whatever long enough from the router to the 360 so is there some way to update it (enough to play .mp4 video) by running something off a USB drive or something?

    EDIT: For the record I haven't modded the 360 in any way.. and it's already running on NXE (Is it still even called that?) because it forced me to update after it fixed the RROD, I had updated it through internet at the time (Some time last year) but like I said, Had to move the 360 to the other side of the room and that isn't really an option now...

    The update in question is the Optional Media Update, but I've never seen it for download anywhere but Xbox LIVE.

    Well assuming there might be a download out there... would it be possible to install in the way I mentioned?

    Yes, you can update using USB.
    BUt problem is the update cannot be found anywhere.

    I dont know where to find a WIRELESS cable either as cables always have wires in them.

    Just move the Xbox to your internet connection for the 10 second update then move it back. Or you can dredge through the depths of the internet to try to find a usb update file with unknown integrity. Move the xbox once sounds a lot easier.

    Didn't mean to say that, My brain was fried at the time.. I mean a wire long enough XD
    And again, can't find the cable...

    Honestly, it would not work for you since you do not have a jtagged 360. Without a jtag, the only way to get the optional media update is to connect to the internet somehow and download it. The update is tied to the machine that downloaded it.

    I would get any cable, any little TV, and just hook your router to your 360, and download it. Since you do not have it hacked in any way, what do you have to loose. If you have your internet through your cable, you can connect the modem to any cable outlet (like the one yout TV is connected to), and connect your 360 directly to the modem. Sure its a pain, but it's a one time shot. If you have it downloaded to a profile from another machine it will not work unless you do a license transfer (M$ allows you to do it free once per year), but that requires you to have it connected to XBL.

    instead of moving your xbox to your router, can you move the router and modem to your 360? Should be easier if you don't have a small tv to move around. Or if you have a laptop you can use it as a wireless bridge.

    So in other words yes I'm better off just converting my videos...
    (Which is a moot point now but there will probably be more in .mp4 in a couple days..)

    You can use the update. Just put it on the root of a USB stick, stick it in your 360, and it should let you install the update.
