Why did you post this on the Switch Section?

Go play with one at Target or best buy, it's different but I like it.

But your question has nothing to do with the Switch.

he's upgrading to the switch. How is that not related?

TO answer op's question it feels completely different. I honestly only play the switch in docked mode and I still play my 3ds.

Feels thicker, buttons have a bit more "press" to them, cartridges go in label-side up, and the analog sticks are sticks instead of a pad.

It says "Upgrading from 3ds, N2ds xl; how does this console feel at hand compared to 3ds?"

How does this mean they are upgrading to a Switch? It says they are upgrading to new 2ds xl from old 3ds.

umm..re-read OP title. The fact that he's posting in the switch forum implies he's updating to a switch from a 3ds/2dsxl (interchangeably)

It doesn't, it was poorly worded, but if you'll read his reply he said he's upgrading to a Switch.
I like it, the screen is so nice to look at, and the games look great and play great. But the form factor is odd, it's really big yet still uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time (but so were the previous handhelds)
Which is why I put a GripCase on mine, which has big chunky grips, and now it's comfortable to hold, way more than any of their previous handhelds.
Also, as you're probably already aware, the games are more like full console experiences and not dumbed down like you typically find in handheld games.

Well, feels really diferent, size and weight are very different (obviously), but the buttons are the same, only that, I need to advice you that Joy-Cons Stick are very delicate and they wear with hard use, like N64, so, treat them nicely. Do you ever played on a GBA or PSP? Kind of, great experience on both, handheld and homeconsole, in homeconsole you'll have a better expierence if you get a Pro Controller, trust me, and this will keep your Joy Cons with less wear. In other words... Buy it!

Haven't touched my 3DSXL since I purchased the switch many moons ago.

Frankly my 3ds XL always felt super cramped and awkward. The switch feels much, much better, but then again, since I got the pro controller I hardly take it out of the dock.

Playing a handheld console with a controller is gold.

If you play your 3DS mostly sitting upright at home, then Switch will pretty much replace it. It gets more cumbersome in other situations. At least the screen is much improved though.

    Of course

I have played on the original psp, is it kinda like that then, like width wise?

I play my 3DS laying down, and so did my wii u gamepad when I had it, so im assuming it should be okay unless its meant to be enjoyed sitting more.
