Hacking Updating Wii

Hi, I want to update my Wii to the newest version and get rid of my homebrew forever. If I have multiple installed .wads of WiiWare games and the homebrew channel installed, if I just update my wii, will they all be removed? Do I need to remove all of them first in order to not be bricked? I have not updated for the past 2 or 3 times if that helps...
