I have recently started up my old phat PS3 with CFW Rogero 4.50 V1.01. (I haven't touched it in years)
I tried installing a game (with pkg, which is new to me as I usually did the bluray emulator way), and it seemed to work but said I needed 4.60
Is there an easy way to update my CFW to the latest version? Is there a version spoofer?
Will I lose anything if I switch from Rogero?
I currently have Multiman and a few games installed.

Thanks,

Thank you. Is there a step-by-step of this process anywhere. Its been a real long time since I've done anything with my PS3. (I think I used a special dongle last time?)
Tbh I don’t think you need a dongle if you can install the downgrades pkg with multi man and find the rogero 3.55.4 pup to downgrade you do need a usb stick then find the latest rebug cfw put it on the usb and update normally from usb

You don't have to downgrade. Put the latest rebug update on a stick, rename it PS3UPDAT.PUP and make a folder on the root of the USB stick called PS3 and in that folder make another folder called UPDATE and put the PS3UPDAT.PUP in there.
It's best that you do so without having acces to internet and to be 100 percent save it is best done through the Safe mode menu. Make sure to select from External or usb storage and nothing else

OK, how do I enter safe mode. And its ok even though I'm going from Rogero to Rebug?

Yup it's all good, no worries, you don't have to do it through safe mode and it can also be done through the normal menu wich i did all the time. But it's always safer to do it through safe mode. Oh before i forget, don't leave a disc in your drive either since if it contains newer firmware it will take the one on the disc.
Activating Safe Mode on PlayStation®3

  1. Turn off the PlayStation®3 by holding the Power button on the front of the unit till the Power light is red.

  2. Touch and hold the Power button (do not remove your finger from the button). You will hear the first beep meaning the PS3™ is powering on.

  3. Continue to hold the Power button, and after about 5 seconds you will hear a second beep indicating the video reset.

  4. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a third beep and the system will power off (Power light is red).

  5. Touch and hold the Power button (again, do not remove your finger from the button). As in Step 2, you will hear the first beep, again for the PS3™ to power on.

  6. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep for video reset.

  7. Continue to hold the Power button, and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep. At that point release the Power button. If you succeeded in activating Safe Mode, you will see a message on the screen saying "Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button".

  8. Connect a USB cable to the controller and the PS3™ and press the PS button to enter Safe Mode. You will now see the Safe Mode menu.
