I've got a retail copy of Pokémon X which I play on EmuNAND classic, now the issue is I can't go online since there's the 1.4 update for Pokemon X which I don't have and getting it would require me to go to the eShop which is impossible since I'm on 9.5

So I thought of getting the 1.4 update as a .CIA and I did, I went into Gateway mode, opened up bigbluemenu and installed it, went back to classic mode and it won't work, I'm still prompted to update

now one of the users on that site that must not be named said that it only works with .3ds/CIA (non-legit) copies of the game in Gateway mode, cos unsigned/illegal CIAs won't work on emuNAND classic. I get that, but why wouldn't these updates be legit? If they were ripped straight from the eShop then they should be legit, right?

ok so my only other option right now is to dump my cart and play it in gateway mode. Supposing I did this, how would I transfer the save? I know I need to put it on my 3DS's SD card and name it titleid.sav, but are there any steps I need to take to properly convert it from a retail save to a gateway one?

Thanks

Is this a new 3ds? If it's not then you could backup emunand, update to 9.6 emunand and use rxtools to get the update, make a cia out of it yourself etc., then flashback your emunand backup.

Update cia's are just like eshop game cia's, they are not legit/clean files like preinstalled games are. Preinstalled games are not linked to a specific console/NNID at the time of installation in the factory. This is why they are legit. Update cia's can not be made legit/clean as they are downloaded from the eshop and signed to the specific console they are downloaded on. The updates are not ripped from the eshop as you need a valid ticket to download and convert them to a cia. This is why they only work in gateway mode.

This means the only 2 options you have are 1. what you said about dumping your cart or 2. what tarovisions said and use rxtools to update to 9.6 and get the update off of the eshop yourself. Personally, I would go with option 1 as it is the safest option unless you are comfortable with taking a chance on accidentally updating your sysnand.

Here is the link to the tutorial on moving saves from cart to .3ds if you decide to go that route - http://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial...v-to-eshop-3ds-3dz-with-savedatafiler.380246/

Have you tried with linked nands? I think I
I read somewhere that it should work if both emunand and systemnand are linked.

By the way, dumping won't help, seeing as Pokemon uses the 6.x save encryption, so Gateway won't be able to read it.

The issue isn't that it's not working on sysnand, it's that it's not working on emuNAND classic. so whether sys and emu are linked or not makes no difference

but oh yeah, I didn't think about the save encryption. thanks

EDIT: I went ahead and tried out rxTools and it worked, I can now launch emunand in 9.6 and update the game to play online, thanks so much everyone :yay:

I'm in a similar position. Could you post a tutorial, or at least the steps you took?

That tutorial is for card 1 games. Pokemon is card 2. I have not messed with card 2 saves but it is a different animal. M

Sure thing, though just as a word of warning you'll need access to a Windows PC (had to borrow my mom's cos I'm a mac user lol). Also this doesn't work for N3DS

All righty here's what I did

  • Backup your current emuNAND using EmuNAND tool and save it somewhere
  • Head on over to the rxtools site's download section and download the latest version
  • Extract the downloaded file
  • Run cdn_firm.exe and it should download a firmware.bin file automatically
  • Place rxTools.dat on the root of your SD card
  • On your 3DS go to launch.rxtools.net
  • After launching the exploit hit 'A' to skip the warning message, then hit RxMode, this launches EmuNAND
  • Feel free to update EmuNAND to 9.6 and grab the game update from the eShop
  • You can play your game online now
Launching emuNAND from RxTools though means no piracy (it's basically classic mode), so whenever you want to go back to Gateway just restore your EmuNAND backup that you made in the first step. (You still keep the game update after you do this though ^_^ )

Thanks, but I'm not quite clear. What exactly is the firmware.bin used for?

even cablemod had to recall their 12pin angled adapter

seems like nobody can make these things properly

quite a tight bend on that 8pin->12pin adapter in my case, which is the worst case scenario, but i made sure it was fully seated after plugging everything in and bending the cable so it shouldn't come unseated by itself since i pre-stressed the cable

The Real Jdbye I am going AMD this gen still debating 7900XT or XTX

@Psionic Roshambo i didn't go amd for one specific reason, the AI performance is way behind nvidia

    i just got a 4070ti

oh yeah also DLSS is a pretty solid reason to go nvidia since fidelityfx is kinda crap

and now with the rtx video upscaling, and sdr->hdr conversion, even more reason to go nvidia
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
both of which work well in potplayer

amd is a bit cheaper though
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Cheaper and they are less stingy with the RAM not a big issue now but I can imagine in a yard or two things might be different
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Year not yard lol
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Interesting lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb
    +1
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding

When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol
