Hacking Updating Games On Different Region 2DS XL

Hello, I am in the US and I bought a 2DS XL from Europe. I successfully installed custom firmware on it. But I love having the option to update games the normal way, directly from the system as I could on a CFW 2DS from the US.

Can I still do this, or do I need to download and install the game updates through FBI?

I was going to just try it myself but am concerned about a ban. Thanks!

Fake news; however what is true is that foreign games (including their updates and DLCs) are not available from another region's eShop, so either you manage to region change and have eShop working - or you'll have no other option than obtaining them in other ways
