Hacking Updating Emunand to Specific Firmware

Hello, this is my first post here so I hate to look like a leech, but I've searched quite a bit and only ever found sparse cryptic responses to this question:

Is it possible to update Gateway emuNAND firmware to a specific version using a ROM or retail cart? I've recently grabbed a Gateway card and I'm stuck on 4.4 since 9.7 has no support yet.

Of the couple things I've found it seems the answer is no, but clarification is greatly appreciated.
