So is it safe to also update the controllers? I read somewhere that it could allow an RCM Joy-con to not work any more (the right one)
That's not correct, I officially updated to 6.0 + updated controllers, all is working well. An update cannot fix the Tegra gap on the chip.

If a joycon is modded, it should be updated wirelessly. If you try updating it while it's plugged into the Switch, it could have problems.

An unmodified joycon is safe to update.

I obviously can't confirm it'll work for everybody, but I updated my controllers and can still boot into RCM just fine.
did you get devemenu working
