So missing a Clippy Joke. "You seem to be trying to get work done. Would you like me to get in the way and bother you?"

Having said that, the irony that MS is so desperate to get people to user their browser is just sweet to me, given how they stalled the development of IE on v6 for so long and basically wrote their own epitaph for control. Having said that, I am glad that MS is pushing a new browser when they're actually doing repeatable studies showing varies ways it's better--of course it helps when they actually are repeatable and aren't exploiting pointless Edge cases.

I also entirely agree that Google which original made Chrome mostly to push more Javascript and general standards adoption still going that way--being on the cusp of and pushing for things to be the standard while they're integrating them into Chrome--as really not the route to go at this stage. Originally it made sense because there was a lot of improvements that the dominate browser (IE) basically didn't do and the second upstart browser (Firefox) were really taking their time to push. At this point, though, it's not really clear what Chrome has specifically to add--I mean, beyond fixing the various ways in which those new standards have been a massive target for spamming ads*.

So, bravo MS on the actual work. DIAF over this "App Recommendations" or whatever they're calling it. I still won't be using Edge because I don't use Windows most the time and when I do I'd rather use Firefox or Chrome with ad blocking extensions (and a host file). Maybe some day MS will actually convince me by making their web browser open source and port it to Linux. You know, the new normal. :)

    * Obviously, that was part of the goal on Google's part, but I don't think their aim was nearly in the scope of the scummy/abusive and more in the general and possibly annoying. Even so, it was blatantly obvious from day -1 that <video> and <audio> were abuse magnets even without codec vulnerability concerns, so I chalk it up to some serious incompetence on their part. The whole various gif and 101 other ways to simulate a movie (without audio)? Not really something they can absolutely fix, but they could always cut websites off from adwords that do such things (along with all the other scummy tactics).

I mean that's fine, but if it's that solid it should be able to stand on its own without intrusive pop-ups pushing it over the competition. I'm always going to have several browsers installed regardless of Windows' objections, but the more Edge insists upon itself, the less likely I am to ever give it an honest try.

So people will bash Microsoft. A)Because they are still stuck in the late 90s early 00s B)They are under 24 and grow up listening to older people complaing about Microsoft and some of their cheap tactics.
Google does the same, whenever you try to use google.com with other than chrome. "HEY ARE YOU A COOL KID!! THEN USE CHROME!!"
Everyone does the same, because everyone want people to use their ecosystem.
Taking the throne from Chrome is not an easy task, chrome was born just in the right moment to take the #1 from Firefox. Google was able to consolidate their Ecosystem and Chrome is the spine of it.

I mean maybe? But its just a coded prompt that only ever had to be created once. But you, the end user, now has to deal with that prompt every time. The programmer will probably never think about it again.

Maybe steam will beat them to it by adding a "Tired of microsoft's antics when you just want to play a game? Try our latest steamOS linux distribution!" message. :creep:

There is a way to disable it according to the screenshot.

Id expect the various W10 privacy software to also be updated.

Windows 10 and privacy? Good joke, please tell another one :P
As for the news...another reason to say bye bye to Windows (the other being the recent Valve moves with that Steam Play or whatever).
I can see the day when I will permanently drop Windows and never come back to it ever again... soon(C)(R)(TM)...
I would probably do it already if not for a game or two that doesn't run that good under Linux through Wine yet, but it's the matter of time (aaand maybe change of PC?).
Sorry Microsoft, you are going down.

That's a shame if that ends up been the case.
That said, despite been in an EU country I've never once seen a PC been sold with a Windows N edition, though I build my own PC's so don't look much at pre-built PCs a great deal.

LOL, how old are you 12???? You think Microsoft is going down, because some random users switch to linux? It's too embeded into the society, plus OEM have contract with Microsoft to sell their machines with their OS. Last but not least companies, government, the most of the working machines are running mainly Windows with minority being linux distros.

Darn, I can't come up with something edgy
But the thing is googles method is no where near intrusive as Microsoft is making it. You click no to chrome, and it never bugs you again about it. But Microsoft method is far more aggressive. And if you aware that google tracks your data, then you would already be using a different search engine.
And in regards to telemetry, Microsoft can grab more data than Google at this point. (theoretically) since Microsoft can easily track what programs you are using, while google can certainly see your search history on it's site, and any website that uses it services. If someone just so happened to avoid going to google, and avoided google's services, then google won't have a clue. While Microsoft still can. And with microsoft, there isn't a option to disable telemetry unless you fork up some more money. Which while avoiding google can be rather difficult, and near impossible. You can still try. With the whole home version of windows 10, there is no other alternative. Unless you decide you figure out what address microsoft uses for data and block it through a router. Which good luck with that. The only other alternative beside that is to start running linux. Which is even more hassle for the most part. (doesn't mean linux is bad. It just has a skill curve but isn't as near convenient. Especially if your using wine for windows compatibility)

Yeah, I will leave a note on my desk that next time I write a post I will have to be very specific, very serious and most importantly write whatever "public" says even if it's not true.
    ...yeah no

I recommend checking what SELinux is and who wrote it.
Another one to check is Proton "what and who".
As for explanation why I wrote "Microsoft you are going down" because it seems that without it, gossips will spread...oh wait...
I wrote it not in financial way, of course Microsoft won't die "next day" after something like this. Sony had bigger problems and still stands. I had in mind rather mental way.
