I softmodded my 4.2U Wii with no problems ran my homebrew apps (NES & SNES Emus) fine along with my backups no problems. Kids updated the system (not sure exactly what they updated) and now when opening the SNES Emu my system locks up completely to where I have to pull the power out to restart it, the same goes for neogamma. Now the system still brings up the NES Emu & plays original games.

Again the system was already 4.2U prior to softmod.

Also when connection to the internet is made the wii brings up: "The connection test was successful. Perform a Wii system update now? Wii support code: 41312"

I did not perform a nand backup prior to the softmod and didn't install priiloader. I've just read a similar thread in which the person tried to do another softmod and seems to have bricked his system. Just wanted to know what my safest initial route of action to take would be.

    Thanks ahead of time.

You lost your cIOS; that's why it wanted to update. The stub IOS249's version shows as higher than that of the actual cIOS. Go through the Modify Any Wii guide in the stickies again.

Any way to confirm this, not doubting you just don't want to brick

You just need to follow the guide. It can't harm you to do it again.

Alright followed the steps in the guide below \/ under faking restorer

    http://sites.google.com/site/completesg/hacking-guide/trucha

Wii locked up, so the guide says to "Start from step 2a" but I don't see how to get there without "re-Install IOS36 (r3351) w/FakeSign". Is it ok to do this again?

Also going off the same guide from above I uninstalled IOS202, 222, 223, 249 and 250.

I seen others in there labeled stub but wanted to play it safe. Now I'm looking to install cios and seen there's a way to just download it? But I wanted to keep Rev 14 (Unless anyone tells me otherwise)

Otherwise should I just follow the "Installing PreLoader and new cIOS" drop down in the -[Guide] Fully Softmod Any Wii (everything you need)- Thread?

Ya, just continue on with that guide. I find cIOS 249 rev17 is the most stable, but there was nothing terribly wrong with rev14, so instead of the links in that guide, just download the rev14 installer (http://www.mediafire.com/?tmdrzhliotj), extract, rename cIOS38_rev14-Installer.dol to boot.dol and copy to a folder inside the apps folder on your SD card (SD:\\apps\rev14installer\boot.dol)

By the way, there's nothing wrong with not deleting those lower system menu stubs, but is vitally important that you delete the stubs for IOS 222, 223, 249 and all those higher ones.

Am I going to run into the same problem in the future if I keep them in? And will installing Preloader stop these updates from popping up? And is it worth anything to backup the nand at this point?

You won't have problems, they're not important anymore. Installing Priiloader allows you to disable those updates.

Alright tried installing preloader (before Cios) and when i try to in stall preloader 0.30 i get this error
got root; unable to read ticket: aborting mission:

So I did some reading and decided to install preloader .29 and then upgrade to .30, loaded up the boot.dol in hbc for preloader .29 asked for the .30 upgrade clicked it and it froze up on downloading. So I hard reset my wii and it brings up the preloader menu before anything, I clicked "systemmenu" and it brought up:

The system files are corrupted please refer to the wii operations manual for help troubleshooting

And the letters look like they're fading?

Also didn't make any changes in preloader prior to clicking systemmenu, is there an option in there that should be changed to keep this from coming up?

I also have the ready made hacks.ini in my root and didn't make any changes to it:

    Ready-Made hacks.inis

A ready-made hacks.ini for System Menus 4.1 and 4.2 for all regions can be found here (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Preloader/hacks#USA_4.2)

Holding off on doing anything until I hear otherwise from here on what I should check first. What could I have done wrong?
