[UPDATE] Platinum Games says Astral Chain was developed with intentions of being part of a trilogy

Releasing in the coming months is one of the bigger third-party exclusives for the Nintendo Switch--Astral Chain--which is being developed by the beloved Platinum Games. During an interview with IGN Benelux, the director of Astral Chain, Takahisa Taura, commented on if the game would have any DLC, saying that while there's no DLC planned for release, Platinum has developed this new IP with the intentions of it being the first part of a trilogy. In terms of story, there's enough content to cover two more games in the future. However, whether we see those sequels in the future relies on how well Astral Chain sells, when it releases on August 30th.

a very critic troll confirmed, only capable to spit manure on games based on ur only opinions.

freund, you don't have to force urself to like a game, just play something else, but go and check it on STEAM, many people like me had enjoyed the game.
Not true. Someone else answered my question and i liked his answer. You on the other hand .......[/QUOTE]

Platinum is highly regarded because they keep making games of a specific genre, even after being considered dead. Well, the genre still has it's fans, so they became kind of the true embodiment of a niche. The game ratings don't necessarily mean much to the target audience, because, quite simply, there's a lot of room for this subset of games and some shake to the formula might not go down well with some people.

Just like Travellers Tales and it's games.

I do remember when the legend of korra came out, I had high hopes for that game. Wish they would have treated that game the same way as other games they made. But i do agree that in the hack and slash genre they mostly know how to make it good despite the legend of korra being quite bad

Is it just me or does this game seem the least interesting out of Nintendo's lineup this year? It doesn't even necessarily look bad its just i have no excitement towards this game.

Oh its not just you. I have no excitement towards this game either.

But i'm asking why, i'm not asking for a list of games wich i already know. I want to know what people their honest opinion is what the studio does that makes the game great instead of a list of games everybody keeps giving me. Also Nier isn't fully theirs seeing it is from the guy who created drakengard and they made it together with him sort of seeing the Director was still Yoko Taro

Gonna say that Nier: Automata was mostly carried by Platinum. Or have you never seen any of the previous games made by Yoko Taro in action? Because Automata, I can guarantee you wouldn't have done so well if it wasn't for Platinum handling the gameplay. Even the original Nier upon which Automata is based, again, from what yours truly saw in action, didn't look too exciting to play in comparison, and that's the last game that's stable unlike the mess with Drakengard 3 on PS3.

As for what makes Platinum Games special, let me put it like this: they are still in business after about 10+ years of being formed, have had several games that weren't critical bombs under their belt (sales is another story, not that it makes a difference for how fun a game can be), and despite some of the critical bombs mentioned in various posts here (mostly for licensed shit they shouldn't have signed up for, IMO. Licensed games that aren't developed with any care in mind and only for some movie deadline(s) need to die in this industry), are still in business and clearly still making games, some of which are new games exclusive to the Switch hardware which, correct me if I'm wrong, but a criticism a lot of people have of the Switch, justifiably so if they use it more as a console than a handheld, is that it's mostly full of flash/mobile/indie/released-on-every-other-platform-known-to-mankind games that have been out for a while but are just now getting ported to the Switch.

I don't know about you, but more real exclusives (*looks at Super Mario Odyssey, Smash Ultimate and Mario Maker 2 contrary to the "it's just a Wii U port hurr durrr, everyone got a Wii U, right?" train of thought, Metroid Prime 4, BOTW2, SMT5, Bayonetta 3, Persona Scramble (*cries in no Persona 5 Royal port*), etc.") to the Switch ain't a bad thing when you think about it that way.

Also, who the fuck says that if you don't like Platinum, you have to hand over your Geek Anti-Gatekeeping card that isn't asking for a Yakuza-esque Heat Action? If you don't like their catalogue, go find something else, play something in your backlog. I'm not gonna lie when I say that, given how shit is going in my RL lately, I think I'll be checking out of the new console hardware race after the 9th generation of consoles. I'm just too busy with crap to really care about playing every new game under the sun. There's plenty of older games worth playing that, movies I haven't seen, anime I haven't binge watched, and other things to do than trying to keep up with what they're doing with Street Fighter 6, Guilty Gear Xrd: Just End It Already, You're At the Fucking Climax!, Yakuza: Except you'll never experience the full breadth of content in the game, Persona 6 in 2027, etc.. You do you!

lol thats changes nothing, they made the entire game by request from the creators, same way they made metal gear rising, even studios like giving games to them to make it with their style.

srs so you are only pissed becuase people dont even know about the series past and give platinium games credits for making a great game?

doesnt make the games less of theirs and less of a sucess... its still platinium games game set in nier universe.

i dont see anyone complaning that metal gear rising gets credit and its an hideo kojima universe lol.
the thing is, they didn't made the entire game (at least not automata).
they coded the whole thing, sure, but the story, lore, music, battle system and everything else is all yoko taro. everyone knows that platinum can't into original stories and definitely not one like automata.
the rpg elements were implemented by platinum and it shows, let's just say that are not very good.

so saying that automata was made by platinum is not precisely true.

Fun fact: Platinum Games used to be Clover Studio (or most of the same people worked on both) and they made even more unique games back then, such as Okami (which Capcom is still milking to this day), Viewtiful Joe series, God Hand.

the director specific said that he wanted platinium to be involved to improve the battle system so no lol he didnt code the battle system.

so your point is platinium games was just codding 100% and nothing more lol does that means they have to resort to another studio if all they did was code on demand why didnt square enix get some coders? that makes no sence, becuase if they wanted just codders without any imput they would have done it themselves, and dont tell me square enix doesnt have codders lol.

For the combat system, the team took the systems used in Nier and infused elements from other titles by PlatinumGames. Taura's main concept was that the combat system improve on the original and weave into the story
you are correct that they wanted the platinum style for the combat system, but...
Wikipedia said:
While Taura handled the action combat system, designer Isao Negishi created the RPG elements.
Takahisa Taura is from square and Isao Negishi is from platinum.
from that we can say that square designed the core of the battle system and added platinum staple.

they probably had the idea of the combat but asked platinium to do it their way so it would be platinium fun mark, there is no reason to hire another studio to do just regular codding, they arent a small indie studio that would work for peanuts.
