Italian Blog Wiitalia has posted a story that the Italian branches of GameStop have canceled all preorders of Watch_Dogs for the Wii U:

Ubisoft have been good in showing support for the Wii U, with them out of the picture it's not looking to good for Nintendo's home console with third party software.
What do you think about this? Did you have Watch_Dogs preordered for the Wii U?

I really hope this isn't true. The Wii U version was my only hope of playing it

The Wii U is finished if Ubisoft leaves.
Only third party dev left is Platinum Games and well...

Shouldn't "Rumor" be put into the title?

The Futureshops and Bestbuy's here all have ads and "coming soon" cases for Watch Dogs on WiiU.

I forgot this existed and I won't be surprised if it got cancelled considering that the last Splinter Cell & AC games bombed on Wii U.

Aside from release at least one AAA game from themselves and just make every future 3DS game HD versions on the Wii U as well, I can't think of what else Nintendo can do. They have a turkey here, I love Nintendo to bits, they do things differently, they have a soul and the people who represent them are gamers but the Wii U...is heading downhill.

They're in a sticky situation now, release games for their handheld that is killing it or for their console that isn't...business sense says 3DS. Nintendo can usually survive a gen just by supporting themselves but the sales of their own Wii U games pale in comparison to what they did on Gamecube and even late Wii.

It's on Zavvi, GAME, ShopTo, Amazon and other retailers so take it with a grain of salt when it comes down to GameStop.

I'm surprised that people still shop at GameStop considering they're robbing their own customers.

this is retarded, WiiU is the perfect system for watch dogs because of the gamepad.

in fact, its the only console with 100% support out of box...

    PS4 will need a vita or tablet/phone
XBONE will need smartglass.... (making it the only one that you can use on a PC for
    the second screen feature)

    WiiU needs... nothing,

ill be getting it on Ps4..... was going to, but even im not so nieve as to see this is a mistake
for 2 reasons; and as a WiiU owner... a little salty and butthurt lol...

    1) As mentioned above, wiiU was MADE for this exact gameplay style.
    2) WiiU needs a game that actually uses the gamepad as a seperate screen, and not
something that mirrors or improves something else...

Id love to see a d&d game with the dungeon master getting the gamepad...
fuckin A that would be killer.

Implying that none of the retailers you mentioned above are doing the exact same thing (which they are, really). It's just how the trade-in business works - buy things below they're actual value and sell them over their actual value, that's how money is made. You can out rip-off if you'd like, but at the end of the day, those stores still provide people with great bargains and a way of trading in their old junk for someone else's old junk cheaply, which is always a good thing.
Why would you need any of that at all? From what I've seen so far, the game does nothing that couldn't be done in a GUI.

And you know the number of smartphone/tablet owners who also happen to own a ps3, ps4, 360, or xb1 greatly out numbers the amount of wii u owners
Besides the gamepad part is a gimmick

The Wii U system is too bad, a poor hardware, a very bad software, it's too old for 2014 !! Their main controller is really really horrible....what could you do with that thing !!!
Big N have to reduce Wii U price or include the Wii U pro controller into the Pack !

So then you're in agreement about the hardware?

Seems weird they would just cut the Wii U version this close to release. All that Wii U development would just go to waste.

    I forgot
Huh. That's like...one of the biggest third party games the Wii U would've gotten wasn't it?

    Oh well.

This is a really troubled title from what I've heard. For that reason, I thought it would be a good match for the WiiU. :P

Anyways, I hope this cancellation was for business reasons instead of ubi finding out at a late stage the port was technically unfeasible on the WiiU.
