I've just received a message via Wii connect 24 asking me to update my Wii. (09/03/11) It says something about updating the Nintendo Channel. I have a modded Wii (using ModMii (4.3E - recent model)) and i was wondering if it is safe to proceed with the update? I havn't seen this posted anywhere which is a bit of a surprise, or maybe it is safe and nothing to worry about.

Has anyone else been offered this update?
Is it safe for me to proceed with it?

Thanks,
Wizerzak.

its just an update to Nintendo Channel. "updating" takes you to the wii shop channel, which will tell U to update if you don't have it's latest version.
-HOWEVER-
Don't update!
A simple wii shopping channel update will make you update your whole wii. But there's guides out there how to update your shop channel without updating your whole wii.

So, no big update, no new features, and of course, not really news.

I got this too... been rather surprised to see no threads on it.

I've got a feeling the update isn't world wide yet or something..

Edit:

yh, that's what i thought as well only released in UK so far?

@Kajdan Simple 'Wii Shop channel Updates' have before been quite lethal. And i wasn't reporting it as news, but if this does prove to brick people's Wiis then it could well be some quite big news. (I'm not saying it is.)

Edit: Off topic but where does my stereogram keep going? Can anyone else see it?

but what im saying is i already have a fully updated Wii, this is something new which doesn't even have a guide yet (unless there's some universal one which i haven't seen that would be good)

edit: yh i seem to have to upload 2 pics to make it work.

then you can just go into the shop channel and download the new Nintendo channel

For those who need to update before they can get in the shop channel
Requirements

Homebrew Channel Installed.
WAD Manager (if you don’t already have it) – Google it!
Shopping Channel v20 Update Files – Google it!

Shopping Channel Update Instructions:

Download the Shopping Channel v20 Update Files from above (IOS56-64-v5662.wad and Shopping Channel-NUS-v20.wad) copy them to the “WAD” folder on the root of the SD Card.
Load WAD Manager from the Homebrew Channel.
Select – Press A.
Source – Press A.
Select IOS56-64-v5662.wad and Press A – Press A again to install.
Select Shopping Channel-NUS-v20.wad and Press A – Press A again to install.
That’s it, once you have done this just restart the Wii. You should now have the updated Wii Shopping Channel v20.

I don't think a simple channel can brick a wii...

It sounds to me like the Nintendo Channel is the only thing that has an update. The best thing to do is to go into the Wii Shop Channel and download that manually; do not just go and update your Wii. Also, the Nintendo Channel is not going to brick your Wii.

Thats because the official "shop" update updates the firmware completely.
A simple channel won't brick a Wii.

I did it by going to the shop channel and getting the Nintendo channel, it's fine.
