I've never heard anyone who's skilled use the terms 'offensive' and 'defensive'.
I was going to point it out... it just sounds like this man learned his stuff by watching some "cringey" movies about hacking tbh... But whatever.
You just have less patience than me because you've been dealing with this crap longer. I bet it gets tiring, and honestly I think it may very well be a waste of time to bother. I try, anyways.
Yeah, I'll drop this anyway. I got stuff to do for sure, I'll let OP talking about his stuff without getting hate, so he can get praised, heh

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Offensive is Pentesting and/or Black Hat Hacking
Defensive Security is, well, defensive security. The opposite of Offensive. Protecting from attacks, not attacking to protect.
seriously, just stop now

@Mrrraou and I hold some credibility
You missed an "r".

Thread will be closed soon.

Next time, have something to show. Even if it's unstable and doesn't actually boot into HBL, as long as you get ACE there's always a chance.

Like I said earlier (I think it got buried)
Little piece of advice for you.
If you ever do end up making this, don't write about every tiny thing unless you want memes.
I hate to say it but..
PoC or it's not true.
You can say all you want but unless you give us a working video we're not going to believe a word you say.

I'll plan to do that next time. This opened since I though I hit a wall. Not since I had more info.

I did see that. At this point, I'm trying to figure out what went wrong with this thread and try to avoid that with the next one (the actual results).

Defensive Security is, well, defensive security. The opposite of Offensive. Protecting from attacks, not attacking to protect, or whatever the reason is for attacking.

I could explain for multiple reasons why you're not using the correct terminology for the security field and why it isn't stupidly clear cut like in random inaccurate hacking movie B, but w/e.

I did see that. At this point, I'm trying to figure out what went wrong with this thread and try to avoid that with the next one (the actual results).

Try actually finishing the exploit if there is one, otherwise, please don't. It will end up another shitstorm. I can 100% guarantee it.

Offensive Security (2 things: A. Pentesting B. The company behind Kali Linux)
Defensive Security is the opposite.

Trust me, I don't watch hacking movies that are innacurate. I actually do programs involving defensive/blue team skills, while praticing red team/offensive skills as a hobby.

And I know what happens if I pull another thread if it is incomplete. When I get close, I'll open a github and open a thread with a PoC (working or not)

what the fuck is this shit
A shitstorm that is out of order.

Kali is for script kiddies. Use gentoo. More specifically, use hardened gentoo or any other OS providing PIE binaries and some form XN-like memory protection. Learn how ROP works. You'll need it.

Pop quiz - what is 'pentesting' an abbreviation of, and why is hacking the 3DS NOT pentesting?

Pentesting - Penetration Testing
The 3DS isn't pentesting since we are not finding loop holes to better security. We are finding them for our own gain.

And trust me, I use all major linux distros, including Gentoo. It was a long-ass 3 day install that was mentally painful (I didn't sleep at all during those 3 days, and even genkernel wasn't working. I had to manually compile the kernel).

It is pentesting, because you're using a stylus to go through the menus. Pen == stylus, ergo, pentesting. QED.

</sarcasm>

Brilliant. Someone get this guy a beer.

Also the answer for why it is NOT pentesting is wrong. Try again. It isn't about morals. It's more technical. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penetration_test

If you used genkernel, you're doing it wrong. Also - I edited. Sorry. Check again for WHY I suggested that.

I did genkernel, it didn't work, so I had to compile the kernel manually. I used the hardened version too (my dad had me do the gentoo installation. This was back when I was 14. It was brutal only since kernel compiling took forever since I tried genkernel 3 times and then compiled.

What the actual shit? This thread is exceptional - it's the only place you will see people throwing as much theory as possible about anything resembling programing or shitty theory in order to inflate their ego. The best thing is that this will lead to absolutely nothing of benefit for most people who participate in this thread, yet they agressively attack others with only superficial knowledge to feel superior.

Here's a hint aimed at most people in this thread - instead of acting like what you're not, contribute something useful. A lot of shitty theory, or spending months looking for nonexistent entrypoints isn't gonna advance the scene: doing things like writing homebrew or small games (because you like it and not because you seek attention, shocker!) is probably gonna get you somewhere.
