Hello

I have bought a new 3DS XL which is currently running on Firmware 4.2.0-9E. Of course the 3DS wants to update the Firmware when entering the eshop or playing new games.

The problem is I ordered a Supercard DSTWO this week but the shop told me I will have to wait for at least 2 weeks cause they dont have any DSTWO available at the moment.

But I would really like to play 3DS games now and buy some new ones in the eshop. Therefore my question: The DSTWO will not run in 4.5.0-10E out of the box so I need to update it.
Unfortunately I dont have a DS/DSi available...

Is it possible to update the DSTWO with Firmware 4.5.0-10E?? I read something about renaming the update file with a "b" on the end and then wait some minutes in the home menu. Does that really work??

Thanks in advance for your answers!

It usually works but is not 100% reliable and carries a higher than normal chance of bricking the card because you can't see the update progress.

wait for the card
updating it the normal way is the best method
Method B should only be done if there is no other option for you

the only game that will ask for newer updates is Paper Mario, as it requires 4.4.0-10
just turn off the Wifi switch for now and wait till it comes and play other games

Yeah, seriously, don't update the 3DS first, that's just ASKING for trouble.

this method is risky, and not recommended if you can use the normal method in the above spoiler.

1. Download Latest Firmware

Also make sure you have the latest EOS on the card

2. Extract "dstwoupdate.dat" to the root of your microsd card and rename it to "dstwoupdateb.dat".

3. Put your microsd card into your DSTwo and insert it into your 3DS.

4. Turn on the 3DS and launch the DSTwo, you will see this screen.

Stay on this screen, DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING, and just wait and wait for 10 minutes, IF YOU TOUCH ANYTHING YOU MAY BRICK YOUR DSTWO.

5. After the 10 minutes is up, turn off the 3DS, then put the microsd card back into your computer and delete "dstwoupdateb.dat".

YOU MUST NOT JUST TURN THE CONSOLE OFF THEN ON AGAIN AND BOOT THE CARD!!!!!!
MAKE SURE THAT THE UPDATE FILE HAS BEEN DELETED!!!!!

6. You can now put your microsd card back into your DSTwo, and back into your 3DS, and now your DSTwo should be on Latest Firwmare, and it should work normally on your 3DS on the latest firmware.

Don't see what's risky here but its cool that it's possible to udate it like this ^^
Btw i don't understand this part: launch the DSTwo
Umm the 3DS can't see it the DSTwo so how is it gonna recognize with this method?
The dstwoupdateb.dat file has to do something with it right?

LOL its risky because with this method you can permanently brick the card is you turn it off to early, or if you leave the file on there after loading it up once

launch means to start up as normal
if the DSTwo is not seen at all by the console then your card is one of a few things
1.bricked, which means you baddly flashed the firmware update and now the internal memory data is corrupt
2.the Micro SD card is dead
3.the MicroSD card Slot is bust on the card

It says 3 min. Why not leave it for 30 min and then come back later lol?

The instructions posted by the admin on the supercard site say 3..
where does it say 3?
its 10min, whoever says its 3 is risking bricking there card
i did an experiment, some cards even bricked after 5, none bricked after 10
Yeah, that is risky then.
Ahh... i thought i found a easy way to update the card >.>

Opposed to sticking the file on without needing to rename it, and then pressing A, and letting it delete the update file by itself when it's done?

yea the legit method is the best and easiest by far

i just keep a DSLite around to update my ones because it wont ever be blocked on there
