If you find this month's roster of games to be underwhelming, you could also take a look back at some of the best that 2024 has had to offer. OpenCritic showcases some of the most well-liked games from this year, including the indie card-game Balatro, the platformer darling that made huge waves when it launched in Astro Bot, or Atlus's much-hyped Metaphor: ReFantazio.

How did you feel about the games that released this year? Were there enough new titles to keep your attention, or did you manage to finish off older games from your backlog?

No mention of Anton Blast on this list? That gane is one of the highly anticipated indie games to come out and it came this December, too! I did like the inclusion of Infinity Nikki onto there aswell, since I've heard good things coming from that game. A lot of people have stated thay the game kept a gacha, but my sister, who's been playing the game since the closed test has said that the game is barely a gacha at all, and the game doesn't force it on the player as much as other games are like.

Can't believe that Balatro made it higher level than Core Keeper though in terms of GOTY status... what an abysmal sight to see. At least it won't something within the Steam GOTY awards!

Core Keeper deserves so much praise. Infinity Nikki almost looks TOO cute, but it's still something I'd love to get around to eventually. I've added Antonblast to the list! I hadn't actually heard of it, thanks!

Core Keeper deserves so much praise.

The fact that the game hasn't been shown anywhere on the Game Awards makes me disappointed as shit because I've played enough of this game for me to change my entire perspective on indie games (modern ones specifically) as a whole, with high hopes for better ones like this to come out in the future and I technically gotten what I wished for with Anton Blast being much more involved than Pizza Tower, but if I'm going to be honest, i and everyone else needs to stop making the comparrisons between both games. They're not the same game although they're both inspired by Wario Land 4.

Lotta people are saying that IN is similar to genshin but I dont know about that consideing I've never played the latter.

The hell, 10 bucks ?? At best I'll get it when it's 3€ just like Mario Run
But because they've dropped support for the original game, it's pretty nice that there is still a way to play it .... they didn't need to make it THAT expensive tho

No freezing here. Game is a disappointment because of something on your end? Smh.
He said it when he mentioned hidden drm. Or at least I read it like "i pirated it" ...maybe I am reading into his statement too much idk lol. Anyway I was just saying to myself I needed to look up new releases the other day. Love how GBAtemp started doing monthy release threads. 😁 keep up the great work.

If they made an RPG based on the original power ranger series, with green ranger included, there would be the potential for a great release.

Maybe because you playing a bootleg/ pirated version. I've been playing it for about 6 hours straight with no issues at all. The game is awesome. I'd say GOTY even.

Doubt I'm picking up anything before Christmas. Too many games & not enough time in the world to play them.

Playing Hedon Bloodrite (from 2019, backlog too big) at the moment, amazing game, 100% recommend. No handholding here, no flashing arrow, no ai companion ruining puzzles, just drops you into the world and tells you to get on with it.

After that from 2024 I have Nine sols and Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus to get on with. From December's list, I do want the Soul Reaver remasters & I want Indiana Jones. Need to upgrade first for Indiana Jones (hopefully there is decent value in next gen cards and no nonsense like X50 class cards being bumped to X60) and wouldn't pay £50 anyway, so hopefully will have dropped by the time I get around to it.

@Kirbydogs, That's the reason why ppl are so addicted to the app, it's because of Temu's push to gambling.
