The platforming physics in 2D Mario games are not good. The jumps give you too much height, making it hard to land percise jumps. The Donkey Kong Country games are what I prefer when it comes to 2D platformer physics. The jumps are shorter which both makes it easier to perdict where you're going to land, and makes for more interesting platforming scenereos. DK's wider hitbox also makes it much less annoying to land on enemies.
The only 2D Mario game worth playing in my opinion is Wonder, which is carried by its great stage design and collecathon structure.
Not only I like Mario 2D physics but my favorite one happens to be the original SMB for giving you less instant control over your acceleration (especially in the air) and having more stiff states between running and walking. I'm kind of a masochist for platformers, just not the Celeste/Meat Boy kind.

If you spend more than half an hour a day mindlessly browsing memes you shouldn’t complain about other people having more success in life than you.

Yes, for some it’s luck, but for most of them there’s a lot of hard work involved. You can learn or hone a skill in 30 minutes. A healthy sleep and social life, work, its commute and leisure? You have 20 hours of free time per week minimum. You could learn one whole new skill and be okay at it per week. Use an app to check how much time you’re wasting browsing social media and you’ll see what I mean.

Don't care much for Steam if I'll be terribly honest.

To me it just feels slow and janky in its usage, just to start a game.
It keeps trying to get me to use all of its other features, like the community, trading cards, and what have you.
No thanks bub, the first thing I do when I install it is to turn on low-bandwidth mode, disable community content, and turn on compact mode.

Generally I only need Steam to play Final Fantasy 14, which I bought over a decade ago without realising I could get it directly from Square Enix.
Big mistake there, so now I'm bound to have this thing on my computer just to install a single game.

I much more prefer DRM free games and that's how I mainly enjoy my games, purchasing them via GOG or itch.io when possible.
If DRM is necessary, then I really prefer games that use their own mini-launchers (such as Final Fantasy 11, Final Fantasy 14 and Elite Dangerous) without having to start something like Steam or the EA App.

Not to say I completely detest everything Valve does, I use a Linux distro as my OS, so I appreciate that they've made playing games easier for me as a side-effect of investing money in Linux and other free software.
I am reaping a lot of benefits by being able to use their Wine patches outside of Steam to play my Windows exclusive games.

Map markers don't be long in Metroidvanias. Mentally mapping the world is immersive.
If you've played Metroid Dread you should know what I'm talking about. The map markers in that game esentially become the waypoints from Metroid Fusion.

I like map markers because my memory sucks, yes skill issue but it's not something I'll ever be able to git gud at because my brain is a bit shitty

If you can't afford Spotify premium just listen to music on Youtube or an open source music player. Trust me, it's a hell of a lot better than Spotify free.
Ad-blockers or another Spotify client with ads disabled.

Linux isn't a good operating system. I use it because moden windows is even worse. If Microsoft released a version of windows with no bullshit, no telementary, great performance, no ads, I would use it.
Microsoft is the definition of 'greedy', and Windows is a lot bloated with ads and spyware built-in. Their Co-Pilot add-on tracks what you do on your machine and everything gets stored into an unencrypted folder, making it a target for cybercriminals to craft malware to find any secrets.

It's not just the ads though...
You can't download songs, can't listen to them in any order you'd like, have a limited amount of skips, and if you accidentally skip a song, you can't even go back to it.
Ultimately, that would be a good solution if it were just ads that were the problem, or if you were turning it on as background music for a dinner or something. But if you're actively listening to music, then it sadly just isn't the case
