@SuperSaiyajinVoltZ is also one of the main devs on it and several other people have helped. He did more of Universal-Updater itself where I've done more of the supporting things, like Universal-DB.
I'm not super great at coding advice, but imo the single best advice is just
do something. It doesn't matter what, make a website, make a Python script, jump right into 3DS homebrew, whatever. Pick something you personally find interesting and figure out how to do it, don't start too big but just find something you think you could do and give it a try. The first things you do will probably suck (mine sure did lol), but the best way to learn is to do, my first homebrew coding was little pull requests to TWiLight Menu++ and GodMode9i improving on small issues I had with them.
