Naughty Dog, the studio behind the Uncharted franchise, has created some of the greatest adventures with the best cast of characters over the last several years. Where Uncharted is concerned, most fans would have assumed the target number of main console games for the series was three. Three, strap on your rocket scientist cap, would make it a trilogy. And trilogies are all the rage these days.

However, that’s not the case. Naughty Dog Co-President Evan Wells spoke with CVG about the franchise itself and how it can play out over a long period of time. How long? Well, forever. There was no pre-determined number of games set up when Naughty Dog started their work with Drake and his pals.

"Every single episode is a standalone adventure. We [feel] like we can keep putting him in these scenarios that are self-contained that anyone can pick up and play, but if you have played them and know the characters and storylines it can be an even more rewarding experience. I don’t see why we wouldn’t keep going and making more of those adventures as long we’ve got the ideas."[/p]

As long quality doesn't decline than I don't see a problem with this. Its not like there's an overarching story which becomes bastardised. I can't see Naughty Dog fucking this up.

As long as you dont screw up like Lucas did with Indie then it's all good Naughty Dog.

Eh, I don't know. Naught Dog is a bit notorious for dropping otherwise great franchises (Crash Bandicoot died painfully, Jak and Daxter has practically been killed, and next gen I have a feeling they'll drop Uncharted for a new IP).

I still need to get a PS3 and Uncharted myself, but I think Naughty Dog make good games, even if they have a short attention span.

A new Uncharted game every 2 years is great in my book. Would be even better if they follow the every 2 years for both PS3(and successor) and Vita.

Crash Bandicoot was going down hill regardless the game got to repetitive each new release didn't have any significant changes.

After Naughty Dog dropped them. Crash was good, Crash 2 was great, Crash 3 was a masterpiece. There's a few "side note" games that are great in the series as well (The first two GBA games, Crash Bash, Crash Team Racing, Wrath of Cortex) but the series mostly began dying after Naughty Dog stopped making them.

I agree. While I don't have a PS3, Uncharted is one of my favourite franchises to see in the news. I just hope it doesn't decline in quality as they are high quality right now. If they do decide to drop the IP, I'm sure many people won't be disappointed with the new one.

Naughty Dog knew Crash games wasn't going to take em any were in the gaming business they needed a big blockbuster game (Uncharted) to make them get notice.

Actually it was Jak and Daxter. And Crash games were big successes and received great critical acclaim. Same with Jak and Daxter.

I don't think you know what you're talking about.

    *herp-a-durr assumed fallacies*

IMO, the last good (console) crash game was Twinsanity - The last one before crash became a ripoff fighting game shame.

Alas, it's hard to be a crash fan nowadays, he's practically dead.

As for uncharted: coolz. ND usually makes 3 canon games and a racing spinoff per series (crash 1-3 and team racing, Jak 1-3 and X combat racing) Though Daxter PSP was made by former ND employees, it's technically not naughty dog. I'd like to see if they go that route and if someone else picks up the IP.

That Ferrari part made me laugh.

The Uncharted series has done well in creating a fantastic gaming experience for two games now, with a very promising third on the way, as well as a Vita installment that looks none too shabby so far. Naughty Dog is really good at delivering quality.
