Hacking Unable to play online on the N3DSXL

Recently I bought a 3ds and hacked it, being an old and practically dead system anyway, but this problem has really disappointed me, as I read everywhere that playing online was okay even with pirated games. I tried multiple games and none of them work, they always give an error code. I find it weird since I can connect to the internet normally and even search for players. Here's the 2 major games I tried, which to my knowledge still have a considerable multiplayer community.

Super Smash Bros: 018-0514/0521 (this one i could even spectate matches, but for some reason all of the players had japanese nicknames)
Mario Kart 7: 006-0612

They were both downloaded using the Freeshop. I'm on the latest luma build with 11.8 firmware version (B9S) with the fixed boot.firm released recently. I don't think it's a problem with the firmware though, I still couldn't play them when it was on 11.7.

Has anyone here ever experienced a similar problem? I read that it could be something related to my router, but if that was it then I should have other problems concerning the internet connection and not only this one in particular.
Googling those error codes didn't give me any useful answers. I do wonder if my region could be the root of it, considering I live in Brazil.

11.8 has changed a lot of things. It’s best you don’t play online and keep your 3ds disconnected from the internet until we know everything.

Meh, I've already downloaded like 50gb worth of games, if they're going on a banning spree again I dont think there's anything I can do (besides unbanning later ofc).

Yeah the reason is probably because firmware 11.8 that literally just released has adapted Switch's anti piracy measures, which means that now if you're on 11.8 or later, Nintendo can actually check if the game you're playing online is legit or not. And if it sees it isn't then they can easily ban you.

If you were getting any kind of ban on 11.7 or earlier, and your certain that your ban isn't related to the 11.8 update, then you may just need to inject a new friend code seed. You may just have what is referred to as a soft-ban, very easy to reverse with a new friend code seed which can be found at places like the iso site. I've been soft-banned before, and injecting a new friend code seed solved the issue no problem. Though the error code you're showing is different than that which I've typically seen for this fix to be what you need, still it couldn't hurt to try.

You may just have what is referred to as a soft-ban, very easy to reverse with a new friend code seed which can be found at places like the iso site. I've been soft-banned before, and injecting a new friend code seed solved the issue no problem.

How do I check for this soft ban? I didnt even know they existed.

To check if you're banned from online game play, turn on your 3DS and connect to WiFi. Then press the Friend icon that loads up your friend code, and the list of your friends. Once that loads, if you're banned, you'll get an error message saying it couldn't connect, or something of that nature. If you get no error and you're status is online, you're not banned. According to Google, your error messages are not due to bans.

The DMZ is meant to let the 3ds bypass the firewall, correct?
If that is the case then i should be able to play online if i simply disable the firewall, but that is not the case, i've tried it.

I just wanted to play online, mang. ;-;

It never existed before the 11.8 update for the 3DS. It now exists and we don't know when Nintendo will start banning. They'll even be banning you from downloading from their CDN unless you have purchased the content.

He was talking about the soft-bans I had mentioned, error code: 002-0102, he hadn't heard of that kind of ban or the friend code seed inject thing to bypass it.

I apologize for bumping this old thread, but I wanted to update the situation so maybe someone else having the same issue will know how to fix it.

The problem turned out to be the internet modem, as soon as I changed ISP (and got their modem, that is) the problem went away.
