Hi all,

I'm running 5.50 Prome-3 Firmware on a 2003 series slim PSP. I'm using Masterboy and Picodrive absolutely fine, no worries, but I seem completely unable to get any SNES emulators working. It's incredibly frustrating, because I know I've had them working before on my old PSP's.

I've tried a few different versions of SNES9x TYL, but all I get is 'the game cannot be started' error. I've tried dropping the application in my PSP/GAME folder, my 5.xx folder, my 1.50 folder, but the same error every time. I'm pulling my hair out!! Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Yeah cheers, that's what I've been doing. When I say application I meant I drop the folder in, sorry. So yeah I have it set up as you describe. Just doesn't work. Only these SNES emulators. Everything else is fine.

Which emulators have you been trying? The one in the sticky topic here is guaranteed to run on a Slim whilst you may have accidentally tried older outdated and unsupported emu's.

That's the one I tried first, from the topic that was linked to. I got all my emu's from there. I've tried switching the homebrew kernal from 5.xx to 1.50 in the firmware config (boot whilst holiding R) and a couple of other things, but just keep getting the same error. I'm using the 1.50 version of the emulator rather than the 1.0 version (both are contained in the download link).

You need to use the 1.00 version. The 1.50 versions of anything won't work on a slim without Time Machine.

Cheers man, but it's just still not working. I've tried the 1.00 version in my PSP/GAME/GAMEFOLDER my GAME5xx folder, my GAME150 folder, using both the 1.50 AND the 5.xx kernal, nothing works. Totally baffled.

You're definitely doing something wrong, unless of course it's that firmware screwing you over. All i could suggest is that you either take a shed load of screen shots, paste in someone else's folder hierarchy or use a different firmware.

Hey mate, I've replied to your email but I'll post here too. Thankyou so much! That was really appreciated. It all works great. I still have no idea why mine wasn't working since it was set up just the same, but that doesn't matter now. Thanks again man, really grateful.

the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now

    Interesting lol

I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)

So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb

but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that

least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling

They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great

so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more

    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol

They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
