Some commentators speculate Ukraine is trying to gain an upper hand in any potential peace talks, avoiding a frozen conflict - knowing Russia would never accept a ceasefire along lines that leave part of Russian soil in the hands of Ukraine

The fog of war means it is not currently known to what extent Ukraine is now in control of Russian territory, but the advance will no doubt come as an embarrassment to a much larger and supposedly better equiped Russia

I wonder if Ukraine thinks it was worth it? At least 100 Ukrainian troops were killed, 215 were wounded and Kiev lost 54 armored vehicles, including seven tanks. Meanwhile Ukrainian troops targetted Russian civillians, killing at least 4 and wounding 28.

True, whatever modern equipment Russia might've had during the early days of the invasion is long destroyed by now. They only have the advantage in number of men they can throw at the meatgrinder, but no matter how high your population is, a 1:4 or 1:5 kill:death ratio is unsustainable.

Russia's military budget was in excess of $100 billion USD for 2023 alone, the aid packages are simply not enough for Ukraine given Russia's advantages

USA has been Arming Russia's enemies, now Russia is saying they are going to arm USA's enemies in retaliation. I suppose what's good for the goose is good for the gander. I wonder what USA will do if the Russians decided to put nukes/missiles into Cuba or some south American country since sanctions are a complete waste of time. Or if they decided to give Iran, Yemen or some other countries in that part of the world some modern age weaponry.

Russia already exports its arms all over the world, unfortunately (or fortunately) a lot of their weapons are less than modern by international standards at this point

Don't be so sure it won't happen. Just because it hasn't happened yet (that you know off). There's talk on some places I visit on the net that weapons are going into the hands of people you wouldn't want them going to. Just wait until some point in the future when Airlines are being shot out of the sky, Cargo ships are being sunk, and Infrastructre is being destroyed by weapons that were sold to America's enemies.

Every modern weapon from the west that's been used in Russia has been defeated, Russia also have a weapons that can reduce the population of a country to zero - just because they haven't used them yet doesn't mean they don't exist. or that Russia won't give that capability to USA's enemies. Also Russia has it's own allies and they have their own capabilities - India/China/North Korea/Iran etc....

I can't be arsed going into a hypothetical war, all I am saying is that USA enemies are going to be armed now that USA has done that to Russias enemies. Those USA enemies can be "terrorists" or some fanatics that want nothing better than to destroy the USA's way of life.

My two cents and this all I am gonna say, but this is what happens when you have a president who was ex-KGB looking to reclaim territory lost during the fall of the USSR. Putin did call the break up of the USSR exactly this "The breakup of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical tragedy of the 20th century." Russia has also suffered devastating losses from long-range ATACMS missile strikes, not to mention their losses suffered from inexpensive drones. Forget modern weapons, Russia can't even handle the US' leftovers from wars waged decades ago.

Mutually assured destruction is hardly even that "mutual" in this day and age, even if Russia fired their entire nuclear arsenal all at once 90% of it would be shot down and Putin would be dead less than two hours later. How old are you excatly? This has been happening since the end of WW2. Korean War, Afghanistan, Vietnam, etc. The soviets were always arming someone in order to fight the americans. This is nothing new under the sun
